Twisty and clever mystery

I love a good mystery and this one didn’t disappoint! Engaging characters and plot twists to keep you guessing, I devoured the book almost in one continuous listen, and am looking forward to reading the hard cover to revisit the characters in my own voice. Definitely worth the credit!

Based on comments about the book in the media, I was expecting a self-righteous, trump-bashing slam-fest. What I found instead was a thoughtful and balanced look at his past and present, by a man who admits that he made some mistakes along the way, but who tried to do his best to stay out of the political fray and be an unbiased voice for justice. Although the 2016 election was, undoubtedly, a major event in his career, Comey’s focus is not on trump or promoting a particular political party, but rather on trying to do the right thing, even when the path is unclear and fraught with personal and professional hazards. We need more people in government who prioritize their country over their personal interests, but it is no wonder he js no longer in his position, because honesty, sincerity, and loyalty to country are, unfortunately, valued significantly less these days than hiding the facts, slanting them to favor one political perspective, and demonstrating loyalty to politicians and private interests. Our founding fathers are no doubt rolling in their graves over the state of our “union”. I’m inspired and reassured by knowing there are people like Comey out there who still care about America, and hope many others rise up to take the mantle he has borne.

Niccolò Machiavelli, immortal author and art collector, is after them, and time is running. For every day spent without the Book of Abraham the Mage, they age one year, their magic becoming weaker and their bodies more frail. For Flamel, the Prophecy is becoming more and more clear.

Las Vegas is a city of contradictions: seedy and glamorous, secretive and wild, Vegas attracts people of all kinds - especially those with a secret to hide, or a life to leave behind. It's the perfect location for Lester Olsen's lucrative business. He gets to treat gorgeous, young women to five-star restaurants, splashy shows, and limo rides - and then he teaches them how to kill. Private Jack Morgan spends most of his time in Los Angeles, where his top investigation firm has its headquarters.
