Story
Tibetan Buddhist master Dzongsar Jamyang Khyentse, one of the most creative and innovative lamas teaching today, throws down the gauntlet to the Buddhist world, challenging common misconceptions, stereotypes, and fantasies. With wit and irony, Khysentse urges readers to move beyond the superficial trappings of Buddhism - beyond the romance with beads, incense, or exotic robes - straight to the heart of what the Buddha taught.

Great perspective

I’m so used to Dharma talks focusing on the four noble truths that it was refreshing and captivating to hear more about the ways in which the four seals are actually the clinch-pin of being a Buddhist, according to this author anyway.

Story
From elementary schools to psychotherapy offices, mindfulness meditation is an increasingly mainstream practice. At the same time, trauma remains a fact of life. Drawing on a decade of research and clinical experience, psychotherapist and educator David Treleaven shows that mindfulness meditation - practiced without an awareness of trauma - can exacerbate symptoms of traumatic stress. This raises a crucial question: How can we minimize the potential dangers of mindfulness for survivors while leveraging its powerful benefits?

Excellent book for trauma survivors engaging in mindfulness
Reviewed: 11-03-23
I’m a trauma survivor (multiple times over), a licensed therapist working with trauma survivors, and a meditator and mindfulness enthusiast. This book is truly a gift to helping us understand how the legacy of trauma can show up in mindfulness practices and provides concrete solutions for how to address and work with it. I’ll be bringing what I’ve learned in this book into both my personal and professional life.

The only thing I would’ve liked more of is a more expansive inclusion of process addictions, such as codependency. But still an amazing resource.
