A good creepy story of a father who refuses to except what is really going on in his home
this was written in 1984 I think but would easily ( with a few edits) become a story for 2019 and the modern plague called COVID.

This was a really good story that left a feeling of comfort behind. I think it would have been more impactful with a different narrator. The narrator's style really detracted from an excellent Halloween tale. The story would have been better served if read without such over the top, hammy exuberance.

Story
“You like it darker? Fine, so do I,” writes Stephen King in the afterword to this magnificent new collection of twelve stories that delve into the darker part of life—both metaphorical and literal. King has, for half a century, been a master of the form, and these stories, about fate, mortality, luck, and the folds in reality where anything can happen, are as rich and riveting as his novels, both weighty in theme and a huge pleasure to digest.

As always King does not disappoint. Every story is not a home run but all are in house hits.
Rattlesnake, the Cujo sequel was everything I could have wanted. not a clear cut sequel that happens a little bit later but a story of survival unlike Cujo.
the last tale, The answer man is pure and perfect King. Made me cry, dang him.

Meet our heroine, Mo. She’s every dyke’s dream—or so she’s been told by her kind and supportive friends. She’s shy but passionate, politically aware, as committed to her egalitarian all-womyn’s softball team as she is to her volunteer work at the Gay and Lesbian Community Center. So why can’t she find a girlfriend? Could it possibly be because she’s more judgmental than Gertrude Stein and more self-sabotaging than Bojack Horseman?

Story
No matter how Flynn Dalton tries to avoid it, the supernatural finds her. At first, it’s not so bad. Flynn’s girlfriend, Genesis, is a nationally known psychic, which makes Flynn uncomfortable for both paranormal and financial reasons, but she can handle it. As long as no one makes her talk about it.

Flynn Dalton; More than just the woman of my dreams….but I digress.
Flynn Dalton is a down on her luck construction worker who hates public displays of affection, or anyone knowing too much about her, or any attention at all. She meets and falls in love with Genesis, a gorgeous fem Medium. Flynn claims to have no belief in the supernatural but is interested enough in Genesis to be tolerant of it as long as it’s not used on her.
Seems she has had her own experiences with the Supernatural that she never talks about. Ever.
Then one day on her way home, her truck is pulled toward the haunted pond that has taken the lives of at least 5 people. Five women, to be more specific, five lesbians.
Flynn survives but is now haunted by her ex, the 1st victim of the pond.
This book is a whirlwind of excitement. It moves at a runaway train pace and all you can do is hold on and pray that everything works out for our loving duo.
The fact that the main characters are lesbians is incidental to the story. Hate started the curse, and love will stop it. The rest is beside the point. Flynn and Gen could be a straight couple and the story would work, with some minor changes. The fact that they are proud, loving woman, just makes it all that much better.
I could not stop listening to the Audiobook. The narrator; Rebecca Lowman, brings all the characters, especially Flynn to life. Her reading is excellent and went a long way to add to my enjoyment of this book.
I loved everything about this book. It was exciting, the romance was realistic and fun, the dialog is believable. If you know Central Florida, you will recognize the town the story is set in. And personally, I can buy all of this happening there.
This is my first book from this author, but I plan to look for others she has written and I eagerly await the next in this new series. It can’t come too soon for me.
Highly recommended.
Thanks to @Netgalley, Orangesky Audio, and Elle E. Ire for the chance to listen to this audiobook in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

As always, Harold Schecter has a fascinating true crime book. Most of us know Ed Gein and his horrific crimes and that he was the idea behind Phycho and Leather face, of Texas Chainsaw Massacre. But the actual.details of his crime, detection, capture, trial, and incarceration may not be as familiar. I enjoyed this book, as odd as that sounds, and learned a little more about not being able to judge a book by its cover. I listened to the audiobook of this tale and found the narrator robe perfect for this type.

At Iyot Lock, a large decaying house, two young cousins, Leonora and Edward, are parked for the summer with their aging spinster aunt and her cruel housekeeper. At first the unpleasantness and petty meanness appear simply spiteful, calculated to destroy Edward's equanimity. But when the spoiled Leonora is not given the birthday present of a specific dolly that she wants, affairs inexorably take a much darker turn with terrifying, life-destroying consequences for everyone.

Very interesting tale of a unwanted doll and the repercussions of a willful, ungrateful child. Not what I would classify as a Ghost story but nonetheless creepy as can be. If you enjoyed the author's other books like The Lady in Black or just enjoy victorian style ghost stories this is for you.
