Story
Since his first performance at the legendary New York nightclub “Catch a Rising Star” as a 21-year-old college student in fall of 1975, Jerry Seinfeld has written his own material and saved everything. “Whenever I came up with a funny bit, whether it happened on a stage, in a conversation, or working it out on my preferred canvas, the big yellow legal pad, I kept it in one of those old school accordion folders,” Seinfeld writes. “So I have everything I thought was worth saving from 45 years of hacking away at this for all I was worth.”

Love it! Except...

Jerry is my favorite comedian and I love this material. I have the Kindle version also and it's easy to “hear” Jerry delivering the material in my head. I got the audible version to actually hear it. He does a good job considering he's in a studio without an audience. But the lady announcing the titles is not good. Why the accent, which makes her hard to understand? If anything, she should have had a New York accent for continuity. It's the only annoying thing.

In Let Me Finish, Christie sets the record straight about his tenure as a corruption-fighting prosecutor and a Republican running a Democratic state, as well as what really happened on the 2016 campaign trail and inside Trump Tower.

An entertaining and informative book made even better with the narration by Governor Christie himself. He tells the story and doesn’t sound like he’s just reading. I love behind-the-scenes accounts and I purchased this one because I felt it would be told straight and true. Christie did not disappoint. Read or listen to it now because it’s very current and really well done.

Story
Researcher and thought leader Dr. Brené Brown offers a powerful new vision that encourages us to dare greatly: to embrace vulnerability and imperfection, to live wholeheartedly, and to courageously engage in our lives. In Daring Greatly, Dr. Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability. Based on 12 years of research, her book argues that vulnerability is not weakness but rather our clearest path to courage, engagement, and meaningful connection.

What disappointed you about Daring Greatly?
I'm sure the story is great - I am tempted to purchase the book but I've already purchased the audio book. I find the reader impossible to listen to. I have heard Brené Brown on TED Talks which inspired me to get this book. I wish I had listened to the sample before purchasing. The reader sounds very mechanical and strained to me (she sounds artificial and computer generated). She may be a good reader but the delivery (and she had to be coached, right?) does not flow well (in my opinion). If you purchase, listen carefully to the sample to see if you like the reader. I unfortunately do not.
If you’ve listened to books by Brené Brown before, how does this one compare?
My first audiobook from this author.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Karen White?
I would have the author read her book. She is very entertaining and engaging!

Story
With the sweep and vitality of a great novel, Pulitzer Prize-winning historian David McCullough presents the enthralling story of John Adams. This is history on a grand scale - an audiobook about politics, war, and social issues, but also about human nature, love, religious faith, virtue, ambition, friendship and betrayal, and the far-reaching consequences of noble ideas. Read by History Channel host Edward Herrmann!

Unforgettable

The nearly universal praise for David McCullough's book is very well deserved. Adams was an amazing gentleman and we owe so much to him for his service to our country. Listening to this excellently narrated (abridged) audiobook made me long to know more about our 2nd president and his remarkable wife and family. So much so that I went out and bought the book to read it unabridged. I especially enjoyed the extensive quotes from personal correspondence in the story line. It gave wonderful insight to who these people really were and what they thought about our country, each other and life. If you haven't gotten around to hearing this one yet, do not hesitate to hear it!

One of the best audiobooks I've ever heard.
Reviewed: 11-28-04
I highly recommend this audio book for the story and the skill of the reader! I have read most Grisham books and this is my first time hearing one as an audio book. Michael Beck is the perfect reader - I think he must be from Mississippi. It's as if he's telling his own story. I grew up in Mississippi and really enjoyed the story - very colorful descriptions of the area and people - very well done! This story has helped me come to terms with the place where I grew up realizing that even for all its flaws, Mississippi is a very interesting place with very colorful characters!

Hearing this via Audible is my second time through the book. The narrator starts out a little monotone but really warms up to the subject very quickly. I have really enjoyed hearing this during my commute and will look forward to listening again and again. One interesting thing about the recording... they left in two flubs early in the program. The reader so flawlessly moves into the second take, the editors didn't notice and take it out!
