Excellent practical advice. This was made more interesting and useful by vignettes scattered throughout the book.

Story
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Well written and well presented. Wasn’t sure it would keep my attention throughout, but it absolutely did.

Story
Emma Bau, 19, has been married only three weeks when Nazi tanks thunder into her native Poland. Within days, Emma’s husband, Jacob, is forced to disappear underground, leaving her imprisoned within the city’s decrepit Jewish ghetto. But then, in the dead of night, the resistance smuggles her out. Taken to Krakow to live with Jacob’s Catholic aunt Krysia, Emma takes on a new identity as Anna Lipowski, a gentile. Emma’s already precarious situation is complicated by her introduction to Kommandant Richwalder, a high-ranking Nazi official who hires her to work as his assistant.

I often get distracted listening to audiobooks but not this one. Grabbed my attention from the beginning. I appreciate the moral complexities portrayed. There were parts that moved slower than I preferred due to extensive internal dialogue by the main character but otherwise I appreciated the story.

Intriguing

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and didn’t mind the narration; on the contrary I thought the narrators for Marie and Eleanor were very good. When I read historical fiction, I want a good story (understanding it may not be 100% believable) and something that piques my interest in the historical facts behind the story. This delivered on both counts.

Story
Margaret Darrington is no stranger to genteel poverty herself, since the death of her father has left her in charge of her two younger siblings and feather-brained aunt. But Margaret has a plan: To salvage the family's finances, she has only to put her beautiful younger sister, Amanda, in the way of marrying a wealthy man - perhaps the new Duke of Montford, who is expected to arrive any day.
