I need to stop listening to books narrated by the author…ugh.
This book has a very important message, but it is overshadowed by the poor presentation.
As an “Old Grad,” I was excited to open this important book, but found myself struggling to keep with it through the narration.

Story
In An Army at Dawn - winner of the Pulitzer Prize - Rick Atkinson provided a dramatic and authoritative history of the Allied triumph in North Africa. Now, in The Day of Battle, he follows the American and British armies as they invade Sicily in July 1943, attack Italy two months later, and then fight their way, mile by bloody mile, north toward Rome. The Italian campaign's outcome was never certain; in fact, President Roosevelt, Prime Minister Churchill, and their military advisors bitterly debated whether an invasion of the so-called soft underbelly of Europe was even wise.

This was the most annoying book I have listened to in over 50 books.
The narrator’s constant use of different accents and dramatic intonations was overbearing.
I prefer my history without histrionic commentary.

I was caught off guard by the tone and tenor of the letters, then it struck me that the letters were a reflection of the times based on how my grandfather’s generation survived the times.
It is a good listen.
It is worthy of sharing with younger generations.

If you slow the narration to 0.9, it is perfect!
Great for evening devotional.
