Story
Growing up in Santa Monica, California, Julie Weiss would do almost anything for love. She drank, she quit school, she stole - and she ended up a mother in her teens. Years later, overweight and depressed, she put one foot in front of another and found a new road beckoning. In 2012-13, Julie - aka the Marathon Goddess - ran 52 marathons in 52 weeks.

Incredibly inspiring!

I couldn’t stop listening! Julie’s story is both unique and relatable. Her story of overcoming hardships, exceeding her own (and others) expectations, and finding her best self in the grief of losing her father had me in tears. It’s a beautiful love story too. I binged it in 2 days!

Story
Deena Kastor was a star youth runner with tremendous promise, yet her career almost ended after college, when her competitive method - run as hard as possible, for fear of losing - fostered a frustration and negativity and brought her to the brink of burnout. On the verge of quitting, she took a chance and moved to the high altitudes of Alamosa, Colorado, where legendary coach Joe Vigil had started the first professional distance-running team. There she encountered the idea that would transform her running career: the notion that changing her thinking - shaping her mind to be more encouraging, kind, and resilient - could make her faster than she’d ever imagined possible.

Inspiring and incredibly moving (no pun intended)

I have been struggling with mental toughness in my training for a while. I needed to hear about another runner who broke through it and this was exactly what I was looking for! Relatable, exciting, inspiring and educational. There are many lessons and perspectives that Deena shared that I am incorporating into my training. I am seeing and feeling a difference! Like I broke through a wall. Loved this story so much and was in tears at the end!
