Story
Connor Fitzgerald is the CIA’s most deadly assassin. On the brink of his retirement, he is sent to Russia for one last hit. Except this isn’t just another job. After a fall out between the CIA and the White House over the assassination of a prominent Colombian politician, his boss is now using the Russian Mafia to cover her tracks. Not Archer’s best
Reviewed: 08-15-24
I’m one of Archer’s biggest fans, and this just wasn’t up to his typical standards. Perhaps it was the exceptionally bad narrator, who ruined another of Archer’s books, but I think it really was the poor plot, which somehow was both galloping and plodding simultaneously. Too much suspension of disbelief was required to make this book work, and that would have been fine if there had just been better character development. All in all, this was just a disappointment.

Narrator’s voice for characters was horrible
Reviewed: 01-24-20
Great story, compellingly written, but I will never listen to another book narrated by this guy. His voices for characters made them all sound like breathy women. His pronunciation of foreign terms was either highly affected or without accent at all. His foreign accents made everyone sound like either an Eastern European spy or indigent, illiterate farmer. To top it off, his pronunciation of even some English words — and American locations (!) — was just plain wrong. When he was just reading the narrative text, he was excellent.
