Code-named the Studies and Observations Group, SOG was the most secret elite US military unit to serve in the Vietnam War - so secret that its very existence was denied by the government.

First off I love Steve and everything he does, could listen to his narration all day long, this book has a bunch of other people narrating too all performances excellent, the stories however are intense, I at one point had to stop listening before bed as I couldn’t sleep it was too intense, a roller coaster of emotion from fear to sadness and awe brings me back to hunting camp as a child listening to my fathers and uncles stories.

Story
The United States is in a 50-states-wide couples’ counseling session, thinking about filing for divorce. But is that really what we want? Can a nation composed of states that are so different possibly hang together? Colin Quinn, comedian, social commentator, and writer and star of Red State Blue State and Unconstitutional, calls us out state-by-state, from Connecticut to Hawaii. He identifies the hypocrisies inherent in what we claim to believe and what we actually do.

Fun and entertaining
Reviewed: 10-28-20
Colin’s perspectives are a fresh take on an already weird conglomerate of mixed ideas and feelings. Our country is great, and has been since the beginning, if we can all just see that everyone else mostly has the same wants and needs and that we can all make it better with a little more openness and willingness to see others points of view instead of dismissing outright.

Good book, not the best reading
Reviewed: 10-10-20
As a fan of military history I enjoy the story’s and info the book provides, however the problem I have with audible books is that often the reader mispronounces common military slang or acronyms, and it is like nails on the proverbial chalkboard. How much extra effort would it take to consult or a quick google search to verify pronunciations of names and places and acronyms used. For example instead of saying, “M S G T” one simply says master Sargent, or “C A R 15”, is pronounced as “car fifteen”. Just minor annoyances that do take away from the overall enjoyment but for a free book the story is still excellent and worth the listen.

Raw, straightforward, and powerful, Ed Kugler's account of his two years as a Marine scout-sniper in Vietnam vividly captures his experiences there - the good, the bad, and the ugly. After enlisting in the Marines at 17, then being wounded in Santo Domingo during the Dominican crisis, Kugler arrived in Vietnam in early 1966. As a new sniper with the 4th Marines, Kugler picked up bush skills while attached to 3d Force Recon Company, and then joined the grunts.

Ulysses S. Grant's life has typically been misunderstood. All too often he is caricatured as a chronic loser and an inept businessman or as the triumphant but brutal Union general of the Civil War. But these stereotypes don't come close to capturing him, as Chernow reveals in his masterful biography, the first to provide a complete understanding of the general and president whose fortunes rose and fell with dizzying speed and frequency.

Story
Nearly 50 years after being sworn in as president of the United States in the wake of John F. Kennedy’s assassination, Lyndon Baines Johnson remains a largely misunderstood figure. His force of personality, mastery of power and the political process, and boundless appetite for social reform made him one of the towering figures of his time. But he was one of the most protean and paradoxical of presidents as well. Because of his flawed nature and inherent contradictions, some claimed there were as many LBJs as there were people who knew him.
