Story
When unforeseen circumstances during an innovative—and unsanctioned—commercial asteroid-mining mission leave two crew members stranded, those who make it back must engineer a rescue, all while navigating a shifting web of global political alliances and renewed Cold War tensions. With Earth governments consumed by the ravages of climate change and unable to take the risks necessary to make rapid progress in space, the crew must build their own next-gen spacecraft capable of mounting a rescue in time for the asteroid's next swing by Earth.

way too much politics, far more than the previous book
Reviewed: 12-05-24
The level of politics being frequently shoved at the listener got so thick at times that it made me wonder if I wanted to continue with the book. The story takes a backseat to politics through much of the book. It feels like there's an agenda being pushed and pushed hard. Also feels like the agenda might be getting used to fill the book up where the story may not be enough to fill up the book.
Where the first book had realistic and currently mostly achievable technology (which I really enjoyed), this book takes things a bit further and in some cases feels a bit more fiction than science. Although I am aware that a good deal of it is based on real science, it feels like they really stretch it in this book.
The voice actor does a good job, as he did in the first book. He gives a different voice to every character and accents for their nationalities.

terrible narrator
Reviewed: 06-12-23
I wish I realized this book was read by the author before I purchased it. This is an absolutely terrible narration, no talent at all. I wonder if the writer has much practical experience with fire because he makes it seem very easy to start a fire with a pair of glasses and on this tropical island fire spreads very quickly. I understand it's necessary to have the fire behave the way it does for some of the plot but it's distracting in how unrealistic his fire behaves.

Einstein's Relativity and the Quantum Revolution: Modern Physics for Non-Scientists, 2nd Edition

Story
"It doesn't take an Einstein to understand modern physics," says Professor Wolfson at the outset of these 24 lectures on what may be the most important subjects in the universe: relativity and quantum physics. Both have reputations for complexity. But the basic ideas behind them are, in fact, simple and comprehensible by anyone. These dynamic and illuminating lectures begin with a brief overview of theories of physical reality starting with Aristotle and culminating in Newtonian or "classical" physics.

very good book but the narrator is what made this book really stand out. there are points when there is singing and the narrator sings very well. every time he starts singing I'm like wow this guy can sing. I'll keep an eye out for Rob Inglis narrating other books. I understand he also did the Lord of the rings trilogy so I'll be heading there soon

good classic literature with a irritating performa
Reviewed: 01-23-21
performance is a big problem here big big problem. There is no audio leveling done chapters are done separately which is not a problem but the volume levels in the chapters are completely different from each other. Overall having audio levels in an audio book being low is nothing new but here I'm forced to turn everything up to the max and when the reader comes across points where is inflection Skyrocket it blows out my eardrums and on top of that occasionally the guy actually hits his microphone and they don't go back and fix it. the quality is as if someone did it in their basement and they didn't care about how it sounded afterwards because a lot of the problems could have been fixed with free post-production software and they obviously didn't do it. my problem with Mark Twain is when he gets into politics and being in Washington and lobbying and garbage like that. Not a fan at all that kind of ridiculous irritating story but the real big problem is that audio it is at times infuriating. I'm writing this now well okay I'm speaking it on my way to work after one of the many times that my ears have been blasted out buy momentary high volume dialogue that was never leveled which is surrounded by PSY log at a low level and it's just so absolutely irritating I just can't say enough. And if I wasn't trying to get it over with and finish all of Mark Twain's stuff I would have stopped long ago. apologies for errors in words but since I'm driving I'm not taking the time to go back and re-read everything I've said and I see at this point it's just about to let the screen LOL

Zachary Quinto - best known for his role as the Nimoy-approved Spock in the recent Star Trek reboot and the menacing, power-stealing serial killer, Sylar, in Heroes - brings his well-earned sci-fi credentials and simmering intensity to this audio-exclusive novella from master storyteller John Scalzi. One day, not long from now, it becomes almost impossible to murder anyone - 999 times out of a thousand, anyone who is intentionally killed comes back. How? We don't know.

Story
Set in present-day Los Angeles, Junk explores an epic conspiracy, one at work for thousands of years that involves total takeover of the planet Earth by aliens. In the wild, souped-up vision of Les Bohem - the acclaimed, Emmy-winning writer of the Steven Spielberg miniseries, Taken - the world is at the end stage of long-range plot that involves a gigantic genetic-engineering project. The aliens who have invaded us have no planet. No spaceship is coming. Instead, a small advance force comes, breeds, and dies - thus becoming an anomaly in our DNA that can’t be explained.

Reviewed: 04-10-19
I listen to this audiobook despite the negative reviews because I was looking for the sex and violence that people have complained about. this book was not worth my time even though I played much of it at high speed. the story bounced around and was difficult to follow, the sex I was looking for wasn't even worth listening to, the violence was pointless, the performance was lackluster, and I almost totally dropped the book several times. my time would have been better spent with anything else in my library because this really was a waste of time for me
