The AI narrative is terrible.
Reviewed: 06-01-25
I don't know what others thought but listening to a AI narrative is mind numbing. No matter how good or bad a story AI is not a good idea.
As far as the first book I like it. But as others have said, were are the other books that were promised? You only get book one & the rest are missing. is not a box set with one book. False advertisement. Obviously Audible must know about it with this many poor reviews. They just choose to do nothing about it.

Story
What happens when the inevitable zombie apocalypse finally does arrive? Does the world bow down to the masses of shambling dead? Do we run out with flame-throwers and chainsaw-bladed weed-whackers to take care of the undead horde? No, we do to them what we do to every other annoying person in the world: We put them on television for our entertainment. Set in a near future in which society has dealt with the global outbreak of the living dead, a new highly lucrative international sport, zombie pit fighting, emerges.

The author wrote ahell of a story love the characters the interaction overall background character stories where great. What left me struggling to reach the end of the book was the whole gladiator thing. It's just in science fiction & everything it's been beaten to death. I got to the point where I was reading the book because I liked the characters but hated the story and just wanted it to end. Same author different background story & I think I would have been there.

Frustration
Reviewed: 02-20-23
It is always extremely frustrating to get 5 books into a series, especially when the last book was written over I believe 8 years ago? 2017? Two more books promised in the series? I enjoy the books and everything the author has written that I have so far read, just frustrated that I will have to wait and wonder if I will ever know what happens.

Story
Eric "Fletch" Fletcher faces the impossibility of his friend Neil Moore sitting 10 feet from him in a dank cell. He's very much alive years after he'd watched him die. The explanation, validated by Neil's CIA past, is convincing enough for Fletch, but the man who has taken them prisoner wants more. Earl Perkins has dreams of power and has set his sights on the one place where resistance still flourishes. To conquer those who would stand in his way, he needs something he is certain either Fletch or Neil can provide: the secret location of a virus to be unleashed upon his adversaries.

Story
With wars and natural disasters behind it, the Bandon survivor colony, just beginning to thrive in the wake of the apocalyptic worldwide blight, discovers an unidentified aircraft carrier anchored a hundred miles off the Oregon coast. After jamming the town's communications with the outside world, it is decided a mission must be sent to investigate the ship, and neutralize any threat. But what Eric Fletcher and others discover aboard the vessel is beyond anything they could have imagined. More than any danger they have faced so far, Fletch realizes that this enemy, with nothing to lose, threatens not only Bandon--but all who remain on the decimated planet. And whatever happens, after either a successful mission or a devastating failure, Bandon, and those who have called it home since the blight, will never be the same again.

The narration is so robotic its damned near about to drive me to stop reading the book series all together. I've suffered from eye damage since I started the series & now audio is better than the headaches that comes from trying to read books now. But the emotionless, robotic, slow way this man reads is absolutely the most diabolical way to destroy an enjoyable book.

The author tells an excellent story & you feel a connection to the main character eventually. Although the author seems to have a unique understanding of the female mind that leaves even myself as a man wondering if he truly has a good grasp of the opposite sex. If you can look past this you can enjoy the telling of this story.
