Story
This forest isn't charted on any map. Every car breaks down at its treeline. Mina's is no different. Left stranded, she is forced into the dark woodland only to find a woman shouting, urging Mina to run to a concrete bunker. As the door slams behind her, the building is besieged by screams. Mina finds herself in a room with a wall of glass, and an electric light that activates at nightfall, when the watchers come above ground. These creatures emerge to observe their captive humans and terrible things happen to anyone who doesn't reach the bunker in time.

Beautiful and heart wrenching

I sobbed. A beautiful and brutally honest love story that will get to you more than you think it will. I figured knowing what would happen reading the description that I could prepare myself for the heartbreak. I was wrong.

Story
Zara Jones believes in magic because the alternative is too painful to consider—that her murdered sister is gone forever and there is nothing she can do about it. Rather than grieving and moving on, Zara decides she will do whatever it takes to claw her sister back from the grave—even trading in the occult.

I do not know how to feel about this book.
Reviewed: 01-06-23
The writing in this book is perfectly descriptive and impressive but that is the reason why this book makes me uneasy. Like the rest of the comments and reviews say there really needs to be trigger warnings in the book’s description because it is extremely graphic. This book made me cringe and extremely unsettled I honestly don’t know who I would recommend this book to. It starts off so innocent I couldn’t have even began to imagine what it progressed to. The narrator was amazing I will say and the writing paints the story very well. I was disgusted but drawn in all at once.

Story
Jennette McCurdy was six years old when she had her first acting audition. Her mother’s dream was for her only daughter to become a star, and Jennette would do anything to make her mother happy. So she went along with what Mom called “calorie restriction." She endured extensive at-home makeovers while Mom chided, “Your eyelashes are invisible, okay? You think Dakota Fanning doesn’t tint hers?” She was even showered by Mom until age sixteen while sharing her diaries, email, and all her income. In I’m Glad My Mom Died, Jennette recounts all this in unflinching detail.

Wow (spoiler warning?)

The only thing I did not like about this book was that there wasn’t a trigger warning for how detailed and descriptive parts would be. I was aware Jannette had a eating disorder and a narcissist parent but did not realize how triggering listening to this book would be for me as someone who also has a narcissist parent and history of eating disorders. That aside reading this book made me feel seen. I relate to what Jennette went though to an extent and it’s nice to not feel so alone. I loved this book so much and hearing her read it herself felt so personal.
