Waaaaay too much

This book was torture. As a previous reviewer noted, every book has "filler", but of the 526 pages of this book, at least 300 were filler. There was a fairly decent story, and some fairly interesting (but mostly unlikable) characters. But the story, character development, and the various settings, could have been covered in a book about half as long. Way too much minute, intricate, detailed description of every minute detail. I am sorry I listened to over 22 hours of this book - I should have stopped and returned it. What a waste of time. Too bad, I have enjoyed the Dublin Murder Squad series, and had high hopes for this stand alone book. Very disappointed.....

Story
On the shores of a tranquil fjord in northern Iceland, a man is brutally beaten to death on a bright summer's night. As the 24-hour light of the arctic summer is transformed into darkness by an ash cloud from a recent volcanic eruption, a young reporter leaves Reykajvik to investigate on her own, unaware that an innocent person's life hangs in the balance. Ari Thor Arason and his colleagues on the tiny police force in Siglufjordur struggle with an increasingly perplexing case, while their own serious personal problems push them to the limit.

Just Not Good

This is an awful book. I pre-ordered it, and was looking forward to it's release. I have read the previous books in this series, and they were all pretty good. This one is not. The characters get more and more unlikable. The story line is full of absurd coincidences, impossible conclusions, and pointless meandering. I kept reading, hoping it would all come together and get better, but it did not. Several plot lines, none of which were developed enough, or tied together with the others. Shouldn't have wasted the time. Take a pass on this book.

Seriously??

This book has a fairly decent story line, but fell apart at the end. I did not expect the supernatural aspects of this book, but that would have been okay if it had been done well (I loved Stephen King's The Outsider, and the Mr. Mercedes trilogy). What ruined this book was the absurd surprise "twist" at the end of the book. Don't want to ruin it for those that decide to waste their money and purchase this book, but suffice it to say the "twist" could have been built into the story line much better than it was. A good story wasted...….As a side note, the narration on the Audible version was very good.....but wasted onI a poorly constructed story. Did not like this book, and felt it was a waste of several hours of my time.
