Story
On November 22, 1963, three shots rang out in Dallas, President Kennedy died, and the world changed. What if you could change it back? In this brilliantly conceived tour de force, Stephen King - who has absorbed the social, political, and popular culture of his generation more imaginatively and thoroughly than any other writer - takes listeners on an incredible journey into the past and the possibility of altering it.

What an original and captivating adventure story
Reviewed: 12-10-24
Wow. I laughed,I cried,I screamed at the screen and I even clapped.(Keep tissues handy near the end, unless you're dead inside)
Every question that sprung to mind about such a topic, and I had lots, was well answered and then some. I love the way I began to think about things in my life as I read this book. About how if we could see the big picture we could understand things better...but we aren't meant to,that's not the meaning of life
The sex scenes were 100% pure "cringe" as is usual from Mr King...and I am definitely no prude. There is a line that actually describes how hot a woman's breasts look in her nightdress as she is dying of a drug overdose...but if you've read IT you know that's nothing.... Maybe he likes how creepy his sexual language is and what that evokes in readers but it's not my cup of tea. I can't handle how gross it is and always skip ahead. Please leave the Erotica to the masters of it.
Although I do not agree with Mr.King's adherence to the legitimacy of the Warren Report, there are lots of "reasons" why he may have chosen to go that route in 2011,(but cmon,it's Stephen King,he's smarter than that.)
It is simple enough to separate his perspective from that of Jake Epping. re: Afterword.
Ultimately it was a grand adventure that I will be thinking about for a long time to come.

Story
Written for those who were bewildered by the conflict between religion and scientific and philosophic ideas, The Guide for the Perplexed is concerned with finding a concord between the text of the Old Testament and its commentaries, and Aristotelian philosophy. After analyzing the ideas of the Old Testament, Maimonides examines other reconciliations of religion and philosophy like the Moslem rationalists and then offers his own resolution with Aristotelianism.

I very much enjoyed this audiobook, often following along with a hardcopy. The narration is good for the most part. An elegant high English accent lends a softer but no-nonsense voice to the material. However...there is a consistent and unignorable mispronunciation of the words Israelites to "IsrealITIES" as well as Levites to "LevITIES". As you can suppose these words occur with much regularity. This could have been easily corrected and it should have been.

Story
For thousands of years, the prophet Moses was regarded as the sole author of the first five books of the Bible, known as the Pentateuch. According to tradition, Moses was divinely directed to write down foundational events in the history of the world: the creation of humans, the worldwide flood, the laws as they were handed down at Mt. Sinai, and the cycle of Israel’s enslavement and liberation from Egypt. However, these stories—and their frequent discrepancies—provoke questions.

I had already read this author's book about the exodus, so I couldn't wait to dive in to this book for more. His approach employs archeology, history, and faith to deconstruct and reconstruct something everyone already thinks they know everything about. The narrator sounds so much like Ron Howard it's scary! He did a splendid job of it.

Maria Bamford is a comedian’s comedian (an outsider among outsiders) and has forever fought to find a place to belong. From struggling with an eating disorder as a child of the 1980s, to navigating a career in the arts (and medical debt and psychiatric institutionalization), she has tried just about every method possible to not only be a part of the world, but to want to be a part of it. In Bamford’s “trademark blend of disarming intimacy and dark whimsy” (Publishers Weekly), Sure, I’ll Join Your Cult brings us on a quest to participate in something.

I expected to love it,but Maria has outdone herself. She is the rare human I feel I can relate to (same diagyesis). I've shared many of the experiences she's described here through her relatable humor. I've been a fan for decades and feel privileged that she's chosen to share all that she has with her fans. Her story is very important. It feels like real advocacy that will actually be heard by a broad audience. Technically, the narration was superb. I'd recommend the audio version to everyone. You'd be missing out,not getting to hear Maria's vocal impressions/voices and finely honed delivery. Finally, take my advice and go see her live if you ever get the opportunity. It's such an enjoyable experience.

Rabbi Kaplan goes through various approaches to this question, and concludes with a view based on authoritative sources from over 700 years ago, which lead to a very satisfactory answer. Please replace the narrator with someone familiar with the Hebrew language. Basic words and references to sacred text and sages were mispronounced every single time. This wouldn't fly with any other language or culture.

Story
In this seminal work that has spent more than 30 years in print, Dennis Prager and Joseph Telushkin explain the reasons behind anti-Semitism, the world's preoccupation with the Jews and Israel, and why now more than ever the world needs to confront anti-Jewish sentiment. Prager and Telushkin examine in detail how anti-Semitism is a unique hatred - no other prejudice has been as universal, deep, or permanent - and how the concept of the "chosen people" spawned that hatred.

I generally very much enjoy everything Telushkin writes. He is deeply thoughtful with presentation of sometimes exceedingly difficult material. He typically delivers it clearly and without bias. But this? It was so heavily laden with far right propaganda I was unable to finish it. It was pure Prager extremism blanketed over historical information. A schande.

Story
Jews Don’t Count is a book for people who consider themselves on the right side of history. People fighting the good fight against homophobia, disablism, transphobia and, particularly, racism. People, possibly, like you. It is the comedian and writer David Baddiel’s contention that one type of racism has been left out of this fight. In his unique combination of close reasoning, polemic, personal experience and jokes, Baddiel argues that those who think of themselves as on the right side of history have often ignored the history of anti-Semitism.

A gratifying deconstruction of modern Antisemitism
Reviewed: 12-08-22
I very much enjoyed the way the author broke down the heavily layered and veiled antisemitism of the modern world both on and offline. I do hope the author finds some compassion and sensitivity for trans folks as he definitely seems to see them in the privilege bubble he describes.. They aren't and there is no such bubble for them. Also for the record JK is a hateful person, who is transphobic and antisemitic as well.
