Great help to improve my listening skills!

Great podcast to pair with traditional books.
Reviewed: 12-07-22
Book learning alone is completely useless. You have to hear people speaking. So you turn on the TV which is helpful but they’re going too fast. So you listen to a book in spanish that has the english after and then realize that books aren’t how people converse. This is a great mix. Its all in Spanish but you can slow it down. Their conversation is both like what you’d hear in the real world but also, its about learning Spanish so it’s perfect. I pair it with a traditional “learn Spanish” audiobook and its working out well. Im going to look into Espanolistos other products online to replace my regular book learning. Thanks guys!

The guy reading it is basically doing a bad impression of the movie trailer guy the entire time. So that’s tough to get through. And it’s not edited so you’ll hear his stumbles but none of that would be an issue of it gave you actually pertinent information regarding how to specifically accomplish the general ideas it suggests. Example, use good keywords. And that’s it. Of course, everyone knows that if you have half a brain. Which ones for particular listings will help with the algorithm or what things are proven better advertising routes, blanket adds targeted at competing products or more general adds targeted at similar industries. How long is the optimal video demo run time to elicit the most clicks on average. Stuff like that is helpful. Here’s this book in 5 seconds. “FBA is the greatest thing on earth. Sell products on there and you will make money. If they don’t sell, you won’t. Make good listings, don’t screw it up. Again, FBA is amazing.” All in Weird movie trailer voice guy speak. It’s essentially useless unless you’ve just now heard of Amazon. Then, it has some value.

As far as just listening and doing other stuff goes, I think this is excellent. Teaches things in terms of conversation so you’re not just given nouns and then their translation which never works for long term memorization. That and he constantly throws it little reminders of all the things you learned in past lessons so that as soon as you’ve forgotten it and moved into the next thing, he zaps it back into your brain. With that kind of repetition, it sticks pretty good for me.

Even if I wasn’t a child of the 80’s, this would still be a great book. Since I am, however, it’s one of the more fun sci fi books I’ve ever listened to. Great characters, lots of layers but nothing strays too far from the main story line and it moves at a good pace unlike most 15 hour listens. There isn’t that stray 2 or 3 hours where you consider not continuing.

Story
Democracies can die with a coup d'état - or they can die slowly. This happens most deceptively when in piecemeal fashion, with the election of an authoritarian leader, the abuse of governmental power and the complete repression of opposition. All three steps are being taken around the world - not least with the election of Donald Trump - and we must all understand how we can stop them.

Yes, it’s a reactionary book to the Trump presidency, that doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be written or read. Lots of good stories about history and how it could reflect upon the future. The parts where their biased, left wing ideology are short enough to where they don’t feel like a sales pitch and they chose a very robotic narrator to make it less preachy. There’s one chapter that is basically all about Trump being the anti christ and could bring down America, blah blah etc etc, but if you can’t get through that you can consider yourself a republican snowflake.

Nick Offerman actually is though. Good listen. He's a one of a kind with his humor, playfulness and story telling. There's a bit of knowledge in there too so that's nice.

I enjoyed the listen. He pretty much hits everything you would want to know about and hear. If you're looking just for the highlights this isn't it. This is the in depth study, which is cool by me. The performance is good but felt a little slow. Once I moved it up to 1.5x it seemed right down the middle and the story flew by. It paints a very vivid picture of the feel of the times not just musically but in general.

Facebook, PayPal, Alibaba, Uber - these seemingly disparate companies have upended entire industries by harnessing a single phenomenon: the platform business model. Platform Revolution delivers the first comprehensive analysis of how platforms use technology to match producers and consumers in a multisided marketplace, unlocking hidden resources and creating new forms of value. When a company like Uber connects drivers with passengers, everybody wins - except traditional cab companies, which are scrambling to survive.

This is a text book. It is not exciting, it does have interesting examples of all the principles it's covering but it is not meant to enthrall. As someone who just wanted the information about what drives the platform industry and the differences between it and the traditional model, this book was fantastic. I find most tech books are written as self serving the author just trying to highlight they're own "world changing" theories on business. Almost like most fitness books are mostly written to help build a fitness brand for the author first, and help the reader second. This book is not those. Just info, data, examples, perspective, guidance, history and prediction. It's boring and it's perfect. I'm actually going to go through the whole thing it again.
