I think this recording is further proof that having a best seller does not mean you have talent as a writer or as a therapist. Throughout the “work“ Katie continuously calls her patients “honey“ or “sweetheart“ as she rambles on about flipping the narrative so it reflects on you. The way she posits this idea is only effective if the person being counseled makes sweeping generalizations of their partner/circumstance or attempts to think for their spouse. Examples would be “my partner always does XYZ” or “my partner thinks I’m X.” With crazy thoughts like this, of course the subject can’t answer Katie’s profound question(s): 1) Is it true and 2) Is it absolutely true?” Of course not, you knob- sweeping generalizations never are. If you are an independent thinker her 4 question approach isn’t useful. Spoiler: the last 2 useless questions are: 3) how do you react when you believe that thought and 4) where would you be without that thought?
Try her 4 question approach with rational based hypothetical: I don’t like when my spouses smokes because The smell makes me physically sick yet he continues to smoke around me. 1. Is it true? Yes on all accounts bc I still get sick and he still smokes. 2. Is it absolutely true? Ummm….see number one above. 3. How do you react when you have this thought? Well, it’s not a thought, it’s a personal preference brought on by a physical reaction. 4. Where would you be if you didn’t have this thought? Good lord, not wasting my time on this stupid audiobook.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

So, according to this book, its really easy to kidnap the Pope. That premise was hard for me to accept...then add in the sappy tale about the protagonist's childhood and rocky marriage and I was over this book.
