Story
It’s not easy making the career jump from office-supplies-store middle manager to heroic interdimensional adventurer. At least, Jason tries to be heroic, but it's hard to be good when all your powers are evil. He’ll face off against cannibals, cultists, wizards, monsters...and that’s just on the first day. He’s going to need courage, he’s going to need wit, and he’s going to need some magic powers of his own. But first, he’s going to need pants.

i wasnt sure what i was getting into with this book. It was a recomendation from a friend of a friend. But it was a real treat, an interesting and enjoyable take on the "fish-out-of-water" story. I look forward to more.

After recovering her memories at great personal cost, Quinn MacKenna finds herself reliving those moments she thought lost forever. What she could not know, however, was that doing so would not only expose the brutal truths behind her very existence but entangle her in the lives of so many others—a list that includes notorious figures with surnames like Temple, Solomon, and Ambrosius.

Another amazing performance

Another amazing performance in this fun series. This book set about filling in and/or showing us a lot of the small in-between moments, something i think a lot of big series need more of. That said, it didnt move the story along very much. This is not a problem, just an observation. Silvers and O'Connell are amazing.

Excellent, but short
Reviewed: 12-08-21
This was an excellent follow up to the previous book. The story picks up and runs to answer some lingering questions and set up the next big piece.
I will say it is very short. I almost feel like it should have just been part of the last book even if it was dealing with a few new parts. Not to say it wasnt excellent.

When magic is up, electricity dies, cars stall, and skyscrapers tumble; when it's down, phones and guns work, and defensive spells can't protect your house from the creatures who stalk the streets. Equally dangerous are the competing factions of The Pack - a highly organized and military clan who governs Atlanta's were-bears, -wolves, and -hyenas - versus the Masters of the Dead, power and knowledge-hungry necromancers whose minds control hordes of blood-crazed vampires.

This is an interesting introduction to a neat post-modern world where magic is making it's chaotic return. Or I guess has returned. I'm interested to see where the story goes. I struggle with some of the writings pacing, as it stumbles when translated to speech, but that may be due to poor editing in places. Several times I found myself stumbling over transitions and having to relisten or look it up in whispersinc. Still an interesting listen. Voice actress does a good job with all her different voices and personality.

I really love these books. They aren't heavy, aiming for more tongue-and-cheek, but still have some nice commentary on both geek culture and modern goings on. This book does end rather abruptly (they all do in this series) and it feels more like a chapter end than a book ending. Still definitely worth the read and I cannot wait for the next entry.

A transition
Reviewed: 01-19-16
What did you love best about The Pirates of Pacta Servanda?
Attention to detail and insites into the minds of Mages and Mechanics. This book strives to answer the question "how is this really going to work" with the goals set by the main characters.
What did you like best about this story?
This is definitely a transition story. It strives to explain how this coalition will function and the trouble created by putting together so many disparate factions. I really appreciate being able to see what goes into organizing the
Which character – as performed by MacLeod Andrews – was your favorite?
Both Mechanic Mari and Mage Alain are great, consistant characters. The addition of the other friends gives contrast and depth by Andrew's performance.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The final discussion at the end of the book, describing the weight of leadership and the loneliness of being a figurehead for a movement was both insightful and thought provoking.
Any additional comments?
This book is a little slower (and shorter) than the others. But is no less necessary and in fact helps to enrich the other books. It would have been easier to gloss over these details but Cambell doesnt shy away from the political or technical and I give him a lot of credit for that. This is a slower, more information driven book. This is not a bad thing, but i hope that it does not color the reviews of others.
