I wasn't sure if it was the writer or the narrator that was bombing. Turns out it was both. The protagonist was a wide eyed innocent lawyer who didn't know she was beautiful and couldn't assert herself with the man of her her dreams who she thought killed her sister. Still she could punch rivals, threaten law firm partners and having never tried a case open her own firm. She is told in an employment review that women are too emotional to be given cases. Yes two senior partners of a law firm committed a federal civil rights violation, and she whose friends had to prevent her from texting a dude went all Norma Ray on them. Her fits of strength were unbelievable and she came off vapid and the story came off trite. The narrator read like she was reading a children's book, with awful voices and hard periods. The heart throb says hey I didn't kill your sister and after 7 years of believing it, she was like ok...time to have sex. This dude has been a drunk since High School and this woman who the writer tries to portray as strong with feats of feminism but is self described as having low self esteem, decides this is the guy for me. I will help him support, him in his recovery, fix him, we can do it together...she literally said he completes me. Did I mention these two people were never in a relationship. Lazy writing awful narrating. Just ugh.

No one to root for, particularly not the insecure low self esteem male protagonist

Book was set up to have a great reveal at the end. Seems the author was running late for dinner and mashed it all together in the end.
