Negotiating for peace is not an option when the System is in control. It can only be purchased through blood and steel. No one is spared from the winds of war.

You are Dao-damn genius
Reviewed: 12-21-24
I dislike when authors go so deep into the details of their power advancement techniques. Like Rothfuss and his mind-numbing artificing details, or Will W and his super super detailed cultivation techniques - or even shirtaloon and his pages of description about afflictions. I wish the first defier had stuck to the big picture and I disagree with the other reviews that you need this level of dao understanding to appreciate the plot. Come on man! Let’s see some fighting. Get your damn Grimm on and stop describing all the cultivating setups.
But otherwise, love Zac and his team. Please give some more action and character development. Maybe this kind of setup book is necessary like HWFWM #8, but please get us back to the great action from earlier books!!

Story
King Shrewd is dead at the hands of his son Regal. As is Fitz - or so his enemies and friends believe. But with the help of his allies and his beast magic, he emerges from the grave, deeply scarred in body and soul. The kingdom also teeters toward ruin: Regal has plundered and abandoned the capital, while the rightful heir, Prince Verity, is lost to his mad quest - perhaps to death. Only Verity's return - or the heir his princess carries - can save the Six Duchies.

Underpowered whiny MC
Reviewed: 07-09-24
Hated how often this MC gets betrayed and how little power he has. Reminds me of the show Grimm when the detective would go through helpless weak phases instead of getting his Grimm on.

Story
Camp One has one brutal rule: If you attempt to escape, you die - and three random prisoners die with you. Tom Thrush has resigned himself to dying by degrees, doing forced labor while he slowly starves. When he learns that a distant mesa holds a slim chance at freedom, he does nothing. The price of escape is too high. Then fever sweeps through the camp. Surrounded by armed guards and an unforgiving jungle, paralyzed by the threat of reprisals, Tom watches as the men he’s sworn to protect die one by one. If anyone is to survive, Tom will have to do the unthinkable. Escape.

Jack Aubrey with a dash of BSG
Reviewed: 09-10-23
This series has been a lot of fun so far. Reminds me a lot of Patrick O’Brian’s Jack Aubrey books — following a young officer through his commands and adventures. With some Battlestar Galactoca thrown in. Way exceeding my expectations.
