Difficult to listen to narrator
Reviewed: 05-09-22
I listened to 30 minutes of this one and had to return it because the narration was so distracting. Every sentence was spoken with a sense of urgency, exasperation, and force - enough so that I my head started to pound and I turned it off. The content seemed great, too bad!

Story
Enough is a compelling account of self-determination and survival written with absolute honesty and passion. Part memoir, part manual full of tips, tricks and rituals to integrate into your life in order to be the best you can be, Enough follows the journey of Angela Cox. After years of unsuccessful and often dangerous dieting, she needed a radical mind-set shift and a floppy haired body coach by the name of Joe to finally change her own story and support others to do the same.

I'm 48 and have been on one form of a diet since I was 10. I have listened to the science, the pseudoscience, gone to OA, and followed plan after plan that worked for a while but was not sustainable in the long term. I also suffered from early childhood trauma, and am now a people pleaser and a perfectionist. I read Angela's book and immediately identified with her story. Her honesty in describing her struggles allowed me to not feel so alone. Her ability to push through to the other side has inspired me greatly to do the same. I can't stop thinking about this book and feel she helped me recognize the barriers holding me back and a way to move forward so I can live a healthy life, and do it for me this time.

Wonderful book, terrific narration

I typically stick to non-fiction, but found this book on sale and remember how hot a book it was when it was released. I'm so glad I downloaded the audible version! It's hard to believe the story is based on fact and what a sad outcome for so many of these children. The story was well told and I liked the back and forth between the past to the present, although I was most interested in the experiences of the heroine, Vivian. The narrator was top notch, her Irish lilt was present but subtle. She did a beautiful job. I highly recommend this book.

Story
Like many physicians, Dr. Terry Wahls focused on treating her patients' ailments with drugs or surgical procedures - until she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in 2000. Within three years, her back and stomach muscles had weakened to the point where she needed a tilt-recline wheelchair. Conventional medical treatments were failing her, and she feared that she would be bedridden for the rest of her life.

Everyone can gain something from this book

What made the experience of listening to The Wahls Protocol the most enjoyable?
I don't have MS, but I have early signs of arthritis, another autoimmune disease. I've read many of the Paleo books out there, but for some reason everything just clicked when I read the Wahls Protocol. Dr. Wahls takes Paleo to the next level and describes what an ideal diet and lifestyle look like for all humans. I've followed the protocol for several weeks and feel great. Conversely, it doesn't take long to feel the affects of highly processed food. For me it's been trial and error, but I'm making positive changes!
What other book might you compare The Wahls Protocol to and why?
Dr. Wahls story is moving and touching as we learn how she goes from athlete to wheelchair-bound and back to athlete. She was told her MS is progressive and she would only get worse. It is absolutely incredible how she turned that around. I read the Wahls Protocol after reading "Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain Paperback" by John Ratey. This book completely changed the way I view exercise. I would recommend this one as a complement to the Wahls Protocol.
Have you listened to any of Pam Ward’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I really liked the narrator. She was assertive but not preachy.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
All of the personal stories interwoven into the book were very inspirational. Especially those of the author and her family. My heart goes out to all of you with MS and your families.
