Two points, first as I already expressed, I was disappointed with the language in several of the stories.
Second, I prefer a story with an ending.

This book really did not have an end, just ended so we can read the next book. I heard the author say his books could be read in any order, that is not true in this series they must be read in order.

No consistent story, nothing to resemble the America I know for my 65 plus years. Title was stupid for what was written. Enough!!!!!

It is extremely sad that the author thinks the only way to express rage or surprise is to use the F word. I would never recommend or listen to this book again for that one reason. It is used repeatedly by our two heroes of the book.

Story
Gary Gilmore, the infamous murderer immortalized by Norman Mailer in The Executioner's Song, campaigned for his own death and was executed by firing squad in 1977. Writer Mikal Gilmore is his younger brother. In Shot in the Heart, he tells the stunning story of their wildly dysfunctional family: their mother, a black sheep daughter of unforgiving Mormon farmers; their father, a drunk, thief, and con man. It was a family destroyed by a multigenerational history of child abuse, alcoholism, crime, adultery, and murder.

On March 2, 1955, a slim, bespectacled teenager refused to give up her seat to a white woman on a segregated bus in Mont-gomery, Alabama. Shouting "It's my constitutional right!" as police dragged her off to jail, Claudette Colvin decided she'd had enough of the Jim Crow segregation laws that had angered and puzzled her since she was a young child.

Would you listen to Claudette Colvin again? Why?
I would listen the the book again because it helped me understand the Civil Rights movement and and the value one person can contribute to a cause.
What did you like best about this story?
I very much appreciated the fact that Claudette, as one young girl was willing to stand up against the establishment and accepted norm of the day for something she knew to be right. Claudette's family also deserve much of the credit as they were willing to support her in her willingness to testify knowing they could be potentially hurt physically by doing so.
Have you listened to any of Channie Waites’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No.
Any additional comments?
I found the book to be enjoyable and valuable as it helped me understand a part of our American History.

Would you listen to The New Sugar Busters! again? Why?
I would listen to Sugar Busters again because I know there is much that I have not retained. I found the book to be a wonderful source of needed info as how to take control of my recently diagnosed Diabetes.
What other book might you compare The New Sugar Busters! to and why?
I do not know of any other books to compare Sugar Busters to.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Nothing to write home about , but he did an effective job as narrator.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
yes because of the information I was getting.
Any additional comments?
In 4 weeks, by following Sugar Busters, I have dropped 21 pounds and lowered my fasting Sugar rate from 221 to 88. And that is with being allowed by my doctor to not take the medication he prescribed. In one month time my Ac1 score went from 9.2 to 7.9, and I know on my next test it will continue to go down as it is an average over several months.I would recommend the book to anyone that is interested in loosing weight and or drop their sugar levels. I have not felt deprived with my new eating habits, removing sugar is not that hard when you can eat most other non white foods. As soon as I get my Ac1 down to 5.6 I will no longer consider myself Diabetic, what a wonderful thought.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes I would, If people like short stories I think they would enjoy the stories found in this book.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Ford County?
Since the book is made up of a number of short stories, there were fun endings plus one of the books had an ending which should be a meaningful message to some of us as we make our livings. Making it very clear that even though we may be good at what we do, we had better look at the moral and ethical things we do and how it could hurt the lives of others.
What about John Grisham’s performance did you like?
I thought John Grisham did a good job as an narrator.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?
I am sure there are a number of these stories that could be made into a movie. I think the story about Lawyer Wade would be the first one I would suggest. The tag line could be,
"An extremely talented and successful Attorney learns how he has devastated the lives of an innocent family."
Any additional comments?
My only complaint was that I thought several of the stories ended rather abruptly. Unlike a book that usually ends with all the questions being answered, these were more likely to leave us with the opportunity to wonder where the stories went after the end.But I did enjoy all of the stories.
