Everything Anne wrote about as a reader I can relate so much. Even though I have only become a reader couple years ago, I have found myself enjoying reading so much that this has become the reason that I would rather be staying home than partying and socializing.

Story
Vera Wong is a lonely little old lady—ah, lady of a certain age—who lives above her forgotten tea shop in the middle of San Francisco’s Chinatown. Despite living alone, Vera is not needy, oh no. She likes nothing more than sipping on a good cup of Wulong and doing some healthy detective work on the Internet about what her Gen-Z son is up to. Then one morning, Vera trudges downstairs to find a curious thing—a dead man in the middle of her tea shop.

Could not stop listening to it!

The story and the narrative are amazing! If someone like me love watching documentaries of detectives uncovering mysterious cases, this would be a fun and entertaining to read/listen. And the title! Makes me laugh after finishing the book.

Unexpectedly good

I started listening to this book because as someone who was bored in China and living in Los Angeles I am not unfamiliar with people who buy counterfeit luxury goods. But the twists in the story are really smart and surprised me. The narrative is also very good.

Not my favorite from Celeste
Reviewed: 04-18-23
I remember how I felt about Celeste’s “Little fire everywhere”. So amazing that I could not stop listening to it and finished it in two days. But this book is giving me the opposite feeling that I just gave it up half way through. The story is dry plus the narrative is not so charming at all. Still got my faith in Celeste though. Look forward to her next book.
