So very real and uncontrived. But now I’m sobbing quietly. This story is very well written. I highly recommend it.

Really well written overall but the first half of the book was rough and crawled a lot before lurching forward suddenly, which isn’t my favorite form of story telling but probably works for others. Rich in detail, fantastic world building, and the voice actors balanced each other well. I know it’s difficult to tell from the preview if you’d enjoy this book, but if you wondered if it was a story you’d like after reading the summary and listening to the preview, I’d recommend giving it a chance and sticking it out to the end.

From neglect to triumph, Goucher tells her story clinically. It’s not a thriller, however, the build of information and foreboding as the book passes increased my anxiety. I’ve listened a couple of times…Kara is an excellent reader and the book is a good companion on long runs, but the increasing horror is difficult to shake each time. I definitely recommend this book, especially if you remember how excited we all were about the Nike Project and it’s touted potential.

I didn’t care that I knew how the book was going to end by the fourth part. It was a well executed story and I loved listening to the author read it. I’m glad to have this book in my library and as company for long runs in the future.

But this is excellent. I got this audio book to keep me company on my runs, but goodness, I’m enjoying it too much to stop. Tom Foreman shares an honest tale with humor, humility, and an utter lack of guile. He is honest about his faults and failures without skating over uncomfortable parts. I would definitely recommend this book and Tom is an excellent narrator.
