Story
Niall Harbison is a dog hero based in Thailand. He spends his days feeding, caring for and rescuing the many street dogs he comes across. With every rescue there’s a story. Like the sweet gentle McMuffin who was found with many tumours and hours from death, only to be nursed back to health. She now lives with Niall and is a popular member of the pack. Then there is King Whacker – who escaped a vicious attack and is now ruling the nest living up to his name as the king of the all good dogs. And who could resist the puppy eyes of little Rodney.

inspiring
Reviewed: 09-15-23
I have been a fan of Niall's since a video of his rescue of Derek showed up in my feed. I enjoyed listening to this in his own voice. it is inspiring to say the least. I love dogs, i have 7 rescue dogs of my own and I will always adopt seniors. the only thing I beg of Niall is please don't send dogs to the United States. If he ready this. Millions of dogs end up in high kill shelters there and about 2 million healthy dogs are euthanised each year in thay country. I promise you that you can find an awesome dog at a local shelter!!!
I want to do this work in the country of Georgia where there are millions of mistreated and homeless.
thank you for emphasizing mass sterilization programs. this is the only real solution.

trauma bonding
Reviewed: 12-14-22
every part of this book felt like a real life example of the narcissistic personality disordered person's handbook. the trauma bonding, the love bombing, the discard, the hovering. But it's not until your deep into it that you discover the actual trauma.
It's wonderful to go deep into characters from dysfunctional families who are dysfunctional themselves and keep perpetuating the dysfunction.
I also appreciated the backstory in Abkhazia.

Story
Two teenagers, a Greek Cypriot and a Turkish Cypriot, meet at a taverna on the island they both call home. In the taverna, hidden beneath garlands of garlic, chili peppers and creeping honeysuckle, Kostas and Defne grow in their forbidden love for each other. A fig tree stretches through a cavity in the roof, and this tree bears witness to their hushed, happy meetings and eventually, to their silent, surreptitious departures. The tree is there when war breaks out, when the capital is reduced to ashes and rubble, and when the teenagers vanish.

this book is a masterpiece
Reviewed: 11-18-22
this book has everything that I need in a book. magic, conflict, emotion, history, botany, science, teen drama. I loved the narrators, they brought the characters to life. The only thing I regret about listening rather than reading is not being able to highlight some rather poetic lines. I plan to gift this book for the holidays.

this book took me
Reviewed: 11-11-22
one of the most hauntingly beautiful books I have ever 'read.' It was painful at times, and poetic. A beautiful glimpse into the life of one refugee that gives a face and life to the millions who don't make it, or who stay invisible. realizing how much that depends on access to money is depressing. May the memory of those lost be a blessing.

Avatar was lifted from this book
Reviewed: 10-08-22
I loved every second of this book. I love the idea of eco-warriors. I also love that is is a commentary on our own world that has been designed by colonizers.
but let's be real. James Cameron must have read this book and lifted the entire premise for Avatar. 'Advanced' colonizers, military complex, love of earth, trees, indigenous population who defends and defeats the colonizers.
Ursula le Guin. as usual, ahead of her time.

Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

good ideas but nothing life changing
Reviewed: 10-08-22
I listened to this book and appreciated most of the ideas and philosophies but it's all stuff we should know and realize by the time we hit 40, but...knowing that many don't, it's a good book, esp for those who hate self help books and don't have the attention span for philosophy.
however...something about it rubbed me the wrong way, just subtle hints of misogyny. also the reader/performer was total 'Bro Dude' so that was annoying. definitely aimed for white middle aged men. but hopefully it will help them to not be better people rather than Jordan Peterson INCELs.

A groundbreaking work of science fiction, The Left Hand of Darkness tells the story of a lone human emissary to Winter, an alien world whose inhabitants can change their gender. His goal is to facilitate Winter's inclusion in a growing intergalactic civilization. But to do so he must bridge the gulf between his own views and those of the completely dissimilar culture that he encounters. Embracing the aspects of psychology, society, and human emotion on an alien world, The Left Hand of Darkness stands as a landmark achievement.
