Story
Alice Scott is an eternal optimist still dreaming of her big writing break. Hayden Anderson is a Pulitzer-prize winning human thundercloud. And they’re both on balmy Little Crescent Island for the same reason: To write the biography of a woman no one has seen in years—or at least to meet with the octogenarian who claims to be the Margaret Ives. Tragic heiress, former tabloid princess, and daughter of one of the most storied (and scandalous) families of the 20th Century.

He has justified anger
Reviewed: 05-21-25
At first, I felt that maybe Mystal should have had someone else narrate. By the end of the book, I thought that only he could convey his justified anger. He is right. The system is screwed up, and the people currently in charge have no desire to undo the terrible laws of the past. They just keep adding to the mess. I listened to the book during a lengthy drive, and it kept my focus throughout. It’s a heavy topic, but Mystal’s storytelling and tone made it an easy listen.

Story
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

Story
When, at age forty-six, Nancy Pelosi, mother of five, asked her youngest daughter if she should run for Congress, Alexandra Pelosi answered: “Mother, get a life!” And so Nancy did, and what a life it has been. In The Art of Power, Pelosi describes for the first time what it takes to make history—not only as the first woman to ascend to the most powerful legislative role in our nation, but to pass laws that would save lives and livelihoods, from the emergency rescue of the economy in 2008 to transforming health care.

I highly recommend the book. I was a Republican for much of my adult life, and I heard the terrible things that were said about Pelosi. Boy were they wrong. She is highly thoughtful, intelligent, and a class act. The book gets in the weeds in a good way for anyone interested in the way the sausage is made. What a lady! What a book!

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. Even though I knew where it was going, the story was interesting and entertaining the entire time. I too lost my parents at a young age and was raised as a free-range child. I too am a reformed workaholic and am now traveling the world, though not in three weeks but in three years. Someone recommended this book to me because it reminded her of all my travel stories. I’m glad I took her advice to buy and listen to the audio book.
