Good book, awful narrator
Reviewed: 01-21-24
One of Sanderson’s earliest books. Comparing this to the Mistborn trilogy or the Stormlight Archives, this book is almost bland. Brandon has clearly come a long way as a storyteller, and is positioning himself as one of the better authors in generations. I would live to see him rewrite Elantris today, but here’s to wishing. Regardless, a compelling story and the first book of the Cosmere, so recommend.
The biggest negative is the narrator. He did a very poor job with characters, often missing the emotion and tone of scenes. Made me feel Ike he was reading through for the first time. Really feel this should be re-recorded by another narrator. Really ruined the book for me.

Story
Discover the fascinating Philippines in this captivating audiobook on its history, from the origins of the archipelago’s first peoples until modern times. The Philippines is possibly the most intriguing nation of maritime Southeast Asia. The archipelago has almost 8,000 islands that form the apex of the Coral Triangle of the Asian Pacific, as well as abundant marine life that constitutes almost half of this magnificent area’s oceanic megadiversity.

A survey of Philippines history, not an in-depth examination.

This was a very generalist overview of the Philippines, I was continually left wanting additional information or in depth exploration of topics covered. If you are looking for a “Philippines for Dummies” style book to start you learning journey of this area of the world, this is a good option.
