It fell fast.

The story started with an excellent plot but by the halfway point, I was out of belief to suspend. I think the 5 star reviewers read a different book.

Story
He was born into an ancient powerful dynasty and, through no fault of his own, became one of the most recognisable men on the planet. His life was a constant barrage of press intrusion and manipulation. Until finally, he demanded that it stop. In order to get the privacy he so craved, he has written a frostbite-and-all book that goes deep inside the castle walls and exposes every shouting match, fist-fight, betrayal, teddy bear, awkward hug and tear-stained wedding rehearsal for the world to feast their eyes on.

I really enjoyed the humor of this book and the way that it was applied. The cover art is a gift that keeps on giving. Thank you Bruno Vincent and Joe Jameson for bringing joy to my day.

Story
Twenty years ago, Abigail Sorenson’s brother Robert went missing one day before her 16th birthday, never to be seen again. That same year, she began receiving scattered chapters in the mail of a self-help manual, the Guidebook, whose anonymous author promised to make her life soar to heights beyond her wildest dreams. Now, two decades after receiving those first pages, Abi is invited to an all-expenses paid weekend retreat to learn “the truth” about the Guidebook. It’s an opportunity too intriguing to refuse.

Good Book with an exceptional narrator
Reviewed: 12-31-22
This book has an amazing plot but somewhere near the middle of the book the author seems to have been distracted. What could have easily been a 5 star endeavor was reduced to a 3 star finish. Overall, I enjoyed the listen and I will read future books by Jaclyn Moriarty.

This is a beautifully written story. I kept making excuses to take a drive so I could listen to another chapter. Amor Towles has an extraordinary grasp of language and an exceptional understanding of human emotions. I am looking forward to his next book...maybe a sequel to this one.
