Story
This transcendent story follows four college friends who move to New York City, buoyed by ambition: Willem, an aspiring actor; JB, an artist; Malcolm, an architect; and, at the center, Jude, a withdrawn, brilliant attorney haunted by an unspeakable past. Through decades of shared and separate lives, Jude’s suffering - and its impact on those who love him - raises questions about the limits of human endurance, the possibility for redemption, and the meaning of friendship.

Wow

As someone who never writes reviews, I felt that I owed it to this book.
This book is amazing in its complexity and beautiful in its simplicity. It tackles difficult subjects and explores humanity and all of its wonders.
Some topics discussed are explored in graphic details, be advised that this book is not for those struggling with mental health; but if you're at a place where you feel like you can read this book, I'd recommend it. It is a new favorite.

Story
The year is 1973. The Watergate hearings are in full swing. The Vietnam War is still raging. And homosexuality is still officially considered a mental illness. In the midst of these trying times is 16-year-old Jonathan Collins, a bullied, anxious, asthmatic kid, who aside from an alcoholic father and his sympathetic neighbor and friend Starla, is completely alone. To cope, Jonathan escapes to the safe haven of his imagination, where his hero David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust and dead relatives, including his mother, guide him through the rough terrain of his life.
