Story
Faith, Hope and Carnage is a book about Nick Cave’s inner life. Created from more than forty hours of intimate conversations with Seán O’Hagan, it is a profoundly thoughtful exploration, in Cave’s own words, of what really drives his life and creativity. The book examines questions of faith, art, music, freedom, grief, and love. It draws candidly on Cave’s life, from his early childhood to the present day, his loves, his work ethic, and his dramatic transformation in recent years.

That a punk rocker like Nick Cave could have such deep, profound, endearing, and beautiful thoughts. A true philosopher! I am not crazy about his music, but I absolutely love how his mind works.

Having entertained the idea for years, and even offered a few questionable opportunities ("It's a piece of cake! Just do four hours of interviews, find someone else to write it, put your face on the cover, and voila!") I have decided to tell these stories just as I have always done, in my own voice.

Sappy but good
Reviewed: 05-28-23
I understand why Grohl kept the dirt firmly under the rug — he has to live with the many celebrities whose names he drops, not the least of which is Paul McCartney. But sheesh — by the end of the book I was weary of every rock star being “heartwarming,” gracious, and kind. Maybe they are, but then I, a mere mortal, must live in a surreal universe where people are petty and rude. And they don’t even have cocaine to blame! But even so, Grohl’s stories are good, and he tells them well.

Enlightenment ideas still relevant today

Simply superb
Reviewed: 01-24-22
Voltaire's ideas could not be more relevant today in the 21st century than they were hundreds of years ago. What the Catholic Church was then, the new Woke left is today -- one an orthodox, legalistic, rigid, and mean-spirited religion with a God, and the other without.
