Story
After a violent coup in the United States overthrows the Constitution and ushers in a new government regime, the Republic of Gilead imposes subservient roles on all women. Offred, now a Handmaid tasked with the singular role of procreation in the childless household of the enigmatic Commander and his bitter wife, can remember a time when she lived with her husband and daughter and had a job, before she lost everything, even her own name.

Wait! It Mightn't Be What You Think--

the sense of privacy is well reflected
Reviewed: 02-15-18
The tale is a secret, something that shouldn't have been told. Therefore the voice of Danes parallels this feeling of secrecy, very soft and whisper-like. Although the character gets energetic sometimes, when she acquires power or at least when she thinks about it. Danes reflects that well too. Still, at times it is boring. I couldn't find a better word because this boringness made me distracted. It's not due to the storyline but due to the way Danes narrated it in a monotone voice. Overall, this is not a problem that interferes with the effectiveness of the story.

interference of sound quality

It is highly interesting to hear Agatha talking about her writing practice and family relationships and the way she saw her books. I just wished that the quality was not as bad. I believe there are ways to clean such recordings with today's technology.

Story
Six years after four family members died of arsenic poisoning, the three remaining Blackwoods—elder, agoraphobic sister Constance; wheelchair-bound Uncle Julian; and 18-year-old Mary Katherine, or, Merricat—live together in pleasant isolation. Merricat has developed an idiosyncratic system of rules and protective magic to guard the estate against intrusions from hostile villagers. But one day a stranger arrives—cousin Charles, with his eye on the Blackwood fortune.

Wicked

My first audio book. It's amazing to finish a book within two days like I used to do in the old days and this opened a whole new window. For the first time in years I I feel like I have the time to experience to words of the authors like Jackson. A "wicked" smart woman that I love. The narrator used her voice and pauses effectively. Even though English is my second language I had no difficulty in understanding the sentences and never once stopped to repeat something that I didn't get. Overall, this book is a very good choice to get used to listening a narrator.
