Story
In the summer of 1862, a group of young artists led by the passionate and talented Edward Radcliffe descends upon Birchwood Manor in rural Oxfordshire. Their plan: to spend a secluded summer month in a haze of inspiration and creativity. But by the time their stay is over, one woman has been shot dead while another has disappeared; a priceless heirloom is missing; and Edward Radcliffe’s life is in ruins. Over 150 years later, Elodie Winslow, a young archivist in London, uncovers a leather satchel containing two seemingly unrelated items.

loved the reader

Beautiful writing, real characters, intricate story (stories), and historical detail. I loved how the many mysteries about the characters were slowly revealed. It was heartbreaking and hopeful. I would have loved to hear what happens next with some of the characters (because I liked them), but I also get annoyed when everything wraps up too neatly and completely. The way it is written works.

Story
Samantha Moore is, to say the least, bookish. An English major of the highest order, her diet has always been Austen, Dickens, and Shakespeare. The problem is, both her prose and conversation tend to be more Elizabeth Bennet than Samantha Moore. But life for the 23-year-old orphan is about to get stranger than fiction.

Great book, even if you don't get all the literary references. It has a light tone, but touches on serious issues well.

Story
Mara Dyer believes life can't get any stranger than waking up in a hospital with no memory of how she got there. It can. She believes there must be more to the accident she can't remember that killed her friends and left her strangely unharmed. There is. She doesn't believe that after everything she's been through, she can fall in love. She's wrong.

Would you try another book from Michelle Hodkin and/or Christy Romano?
Yes, Michelle Hodkin.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Christy Romano?
I don't know. I really like Emma Galvin, but she has done other similar books, so this might be overkill.
Did The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer inspire you to do anything?
Yeah, read the next book!
Any additional comments?
I read this book (not audio version) a couple years ago. This is one I would recommend reading over audio.

Mara Dyer once believed she could run from her past. She can’t. She used to think her problems were all in her head. They aren’t. She couldn’t imagine that after everything she’s been through, the boy she loves would still be keeping secrets. She’s wrong.

Is there anything you would change about this book?
I read this book a couple years before I listened to it on audio. The reader does not put emphasis in the right places and does not give the book the right feel. I love the story though.
