I just love this series. I have listened to the Rook at least 10 times. This sequel does not disappoint. Very original. I can't wait for the next one.

Last summer, The New Yorker published chef Anthony Bourdain's shocking, "Don't Eat Before Reading This." Now, the author uses the same "take-no-prisoners" attitude in his deliciously funny and shockingly delectable audiobook, sure to delight gourmands and philistines alike.

Since Mr. Bourdain's suicide last year, you must listen to his story with new ears. It's well written and well spoken. It's raw and authentic. And ultimately unsustainable.

Story
Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be. One stayed at home to raise her children and manage the family apple orchard; the other followed a dream and traveled the world to become a famous photojournalist. But when their beloved father falls ill, Meredith and Nina find themselves together again, standing alongside their cold, disapproving mother, Anya, who even now, offers no comfort to her daughters.

This is such a predictable story. After the first chapter I knew exactly how it would end.
It’s repetitive, dramatic and ties itself up with a bow at the end.

Any additional comments?
At first I wasn't sure of this reading. Both narrators I've heard so many times I thought I would hate it. But it is an excellent novel and the narrators ended up being so good for the roles, it's hard to believe I doubted them.

Story
Eight hundred women and children begin a 1,200-mile journey on foot across Japanese-occupied Malaya. At journey’s end, only 30 will still be alive. This is the story of one woman, of her ordeal, and of how she was saved by the sacrifice of an Australian soldier. It is a story of rare individual courage in the face of certain death, and hope in the face of despair.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
So many points were not historically accurate that I wonder how it was published. Then other sequences were devoid of accuracy e.g. hardly no mention of cold while trying to escape in March. I was stuck on a long drive with only this to listen too. I was complaining out loud by the end.
Any additional comments?
I see a lot of other reviews complained about the narration. I thought the reader was perfectly fine reading a terrible story.

Here is the story of two families, branches of the Solomons, transported to an alien land. Both branches eventually grow rich and powerful. But through three generations, the families never, for one moment, relinquish their hatred for each other. This novel is also the story of Australia, from its beginnings to its coming of age as a nation.

I thought the story of WW1 was wonderful. The ending is very disappointing. Unbelievable and way too rushed. Such a bad way to end a three book series.

The Providence Rider is the fourth installment in the extraordinary series of historical thrillers featuring Matthew Corbett, professional problem solver. The narrative begins in the winter of 1703, with Matthew still haunted by his lethal encounter with notorious mass murderer Tyranthus Slaughter. When an unexplained series of explosions rocks his Manhattan neighborhood, Matthew finds himself forced to confront a new and unexpected problem. Someone is trying - and trying very hard - to get his attention.

Getting harder to believe
Reviewed: 03-05-15
What did you love best about The Providence Rider?
The perfect match between the narrator and the language. I just love the listen to the cadence.
Would you be willing to try another book from Robert McCammon? Why or why not?
Yes since I loved the first three but I am getting frustrated by the growing implausibility of the situation, the historical inconsistencies and throughly irritated by the author not advancing the story line in several of the sub-plots through the series. At times the same conversation is repeated. And how many times can Mr. Corbett be taken advantage of sexually? How many times can Corbett be concussed and damaged but has the endurance to go on for endless hours without sleep? I'm actually quite disappointed in Greathouse. He started off as a great character with tons of experience. Instead of being a mentor to Corbett, he's turning into quite the buffoon.
Which scene was your favorite?
Though it was gross, I like the visual of the giant octopus in the bottom of the castle.
If you could take any character from The Providence Rider out to dinner, who would it be and why?
Catherine Herrald...she's a strong character and highly underused.
Any additional comments?
The setting of the story in is some Atlantic island that is prone to major earthquakes. But also has 60 foot cliffs and dense topical forests and swamps with snakes and no coral reefs nor volcanic soil. I'm just not sure where that would be. And lastly, going down a dark staircase with the villain at the bottom and the castle about to collapse around you, is just as stupid as when those old victorian heroines went down them.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
Only to see how times have changed. This is in the paranoid first days of AIDS. And virtually no technology.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Unfortunately, I never really care about finding the killer. Curious, yes. But the ending was not satisfying.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I have heard this narrator many times before. Her cadence is the similar to all the other stories [yawn]. The good thing is her character voices are well varied so it's an easy listen.
Was Body of Evidence worth the listening time?
Sure...but it will be a while before I bother down loading the next in the series.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, it was very well written and narrated. It would be perfect for that long drive with parents or teenagers.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Both women were wonderful. And it's the blend of the two that makes the story great.
What does Morven Christie and Lucy Gaskell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I don't think I could have imagined the accents on my own. The cadence brings so much personality to the story.
If you could rename Code Name Verity, what would you call it?
Friends in War
