Story
Dr. Margaret Richter has it all. She’s rich, thanks to her best-selling self-help books. She has a beautiful home in Cape Cod overlooking the beach. And she has a monthly book club that everyone is dying to get invited to. Literally. Because behind the crystal wine glasses, the fine linens and the catered hors d'oeuvres lies a tangled web of secrets, of deceit, of murder. No member of the book club is innocent—and many are guilty. And the person with the most to hide is Margaret Richter herself.

Story
One of the most influential philosophers and theologians in the history of Western thought, St Thomas Aquinas established the foundations for much of modern philosophy of religion, and is famous for his arguments for the existence of God. In this cogent and multifaceted introduction to the great saint's work, Edward Feser argues that you cannot fully understand Aquinas' philosophy without his theology, and vice-versa. He covers Aquinas' thoughts on the soul, natural law, metaphysics, and more.

no idea

no idea why this book was written or what it resolves. i can't follow it at all. it seems like the whole book could have boiled down to one sentence. i don't have any idea what's taking so long to get the point made. it keeps repeating stupid, or simple, or sophomoric points about existence versus non existence or something? i have no idea what the point is supposed to be at all. it's an aggravating, repetitive read

Exclusively from Audible. 'It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.' So begins Charles Dickens' most famous historical drama: a gripping tale of war, social injustice and the choice between darkness and light. After being unjustly imprisoned for 18 years, French doctor Manette is released from the Bastille jail in Paris and embarks upon a journey to London in the hope of finding the daughter he never met.

What is the plot?

Hyper-descriptive accounts of random individuals from about 200 years ago. Uneventful - I don’t know what’s going on here. There is an occasional witticism worthy of a chuckle, but I don’t know if this is one overarching story or a bunch of small stories? I stopped listening after chapter6. Why is this an epic?

Mezcal. In recent years, the oldest spirit in the Americas has been reinvented as a pricy positional good popular among booze connoisseurs and the mixologists who use it as a cocktail ingredient. Unlike most high-end distillates, most small-batch mezcal is typically produced by and for subsistence farming communities, often under challenging conditions.

The author expresses unnecessary political views
Reviewed: 11-16-23
Author used the female pronoun for the gender neutral. In English, the male pronoun is the gender neutral. The story needlessly mentions “ejaculating penises”. No kidding. Author uses divisive language and is obsessed with race, “indigenous this”. “Indigenous that”. It’s just a bunch of liberal claptrap centered around mezcal. All the politics are too annoying and I couldn’t focus on the mediocre story. I want my credit back and will see if I can get it back.

Skeptoid is a well done podcast about endless topics which are picked apart by Brian Dunning, who often uses crowd sourced research in addition to his own solo research. I’ve always learned something from his episodes. In some areas of his discussion, where i consider myself something of an expert, Brian comes very close to expressing entirely accurate viewpoints and takes. This is remarkable, given the variety and breadth of knowledge he must tackle across the years. He won’t lead you astray, and always updates his listeners with any mistakes he may have made. He’s been doing this for years. Very good!
