Well crafted story that is accessible while erudite. McBride’s word craft captured the essence of the time and humanity of its inhabitants.

Unfortunately, the author failed to make me care about the main character until the book was almost over. I spent most of the book rooting for the main character to fail because she’s a liar, a cheat, and overall pathetic.

First, Adjoa Andoh’s narration is superb! Her command of the characters truly left me wanting more. {Honestly, Lady Danbury could talk to me all day and I’d never complain ;-) }
Secondly, Philippa Gregory wove this historical fiction with love and compassion, while highlighting the horrors of being a part of a society that devalued human life.
