Story
Texas Ranger Rory Yates is not keen for hero status. But it's unavoidable once his girlfriend, country singer Willow Dawes, writes a song about his bravery. Rory escapes his newfound fame when he's sent to the remote West Texas town of Rio Lobo, a municipality with two stoplights. And now, according to the chief of police, it has one too many Texas Rangers. Rio Lobo Detective Ariana Delgado is the one who requested Rory and the only person who believes a local councilwoman's seemingly accidental death is a murder. Then, Rory begins to uncover a tangle of small-town secrets.

This is a tale woven like an intricate tapestry with one thread hanging: who killed that first woman?

Story
When an intricate old map is found stuffed into the walls of the bistro in Three Pines, it at first seems no more than a curiosity. But the closer the villagers look, the stranger it becomes. Given to Armand Gamache as a gift the first day of his new job, the map eventually leads him to shattering secrets. To an old friend and older adversary. It leads the former Chief of Homicide for the Sûreté du Québec to places even he is afraid to go. But must. And there he finds four young cadets in the Sûreté academy, and a dead professor. And, with the body, a copy of the old, odd map.

A Three Pine’s Masterpiece

This review is being written after having listened to the audiobook three times and after purchasing the eBook Kindle version. The first time I listened to the book, I couldn’t put it down, so to speak. I had to find out the answers to the mysteries of the map and death. The second time, I paid more attention to the psychological explanations of the characters and their actions. The third time, I wanted to look for clues to the murder and map that might have lead me to their solving before being revealed at the end. I bought the Kindle version so I can highlight various areas for later study. I hope others enjoy as much as I have.
