I could never quite elucidate why most TEDTalks irritated me so much. Why people could pay lots of money to go to a Market World party where they talk about saving the world but the underlying feeling is one of meeting movers and shakers that can improve the bottom line for yourself. This book elucidated the hypocrisy of our corporate charitable giving. Hillary Clinton and her response to her 2016 election loss is the patron saint of this mindset. Let’s hope that this book helps those with financial resources to reevaluate their approach to charitable giving, to recognize that you can’t cause horrible damage such as Purdue Pharma and OxyContin but exonerate yourself through acts of charity. If we don’t consider how we get to the top and who we hurt on our way there, it is unlikely that we can be true philanthropists.

This is my favorite translation and it is read beautifully. These thoughts are life changing. Why Ihave so few of our leaders embraced it’s lessons?

Story
Robert Penn has saddled up nearly every day of his adult life. In his late 20s, he pedaled 25,000 miles around the world. Today he rides to get to work, sometimes for work, to bathe in air and sunshine, to travel, to go shopping, to stay sane, and to skip bath time with his kids. He's no Sunday pedal pusher. So when the time came for a new bike, he decided to pull out all the stops. He would build his dream bike, the bike he would ride for the rest of his life; a customized machine that reflects the joy of cycling.

The author details the building of his dream bike and with this is a bit about bicycle history and trips to the most respected bicycle component builders in the world. I thought it would be boring yet it entertained me start to finish
