Dando-Collins researches his subject well, prepares to write a great biography, then craps on it by musing about this or that, or pretending about the other. I can understand wanting to theorize about certain gaps in the record, but unlike most I've read, D-C tries to fill those gaps like he was there.

Performance was fine, no complaints.

If anyone has an interest in Elizabeth I, this is the biography for them.
I have five of Weir's histories and have never tired of reading them, even repeatedly. Always thoroughly researched and entertainingly written, I believe any lover of english history will be delightfully rewarded in any of her books.

I have owned and loved the Arkangel Shakespeare for two decades, some since the 90's. Of all the Shakespeare productions I have seen and heard over the last 36 years, since I developed this addiction, Clive Brill's Arkangel series is my favorite. Mr. Brill's direction and casting are second to none. What better to say, than after 20 years I've never tired of hearing them.

Although, I must say he did make one mistake.
He, for some reason, allowed Joseph Fiennes as Romeo, to whine his way through the whole play. No joke JF completely whines every line to the point of distraction. I wanted Tybalt to kill him just to stop the whining.

That said, the rest of R&J is great, as are all of the Arkangel plays.

If you love The Bard as I do, do yourself a favor and give these a listen. You won't be disappointed.

One more thing, Simon Russell Beale may very well be the best Hamlet in history. I know, I know, all the greats have played it, and no one alive could have heard Burbage, but when you hear SRB as Hamlet you'll be hard pressed to find one better.

This is the second title I have listened to by Mr. Goldsworthy, the first being The Fall of Carthage. Both have been enlightening, entertaining, and very professionally done. Great job everybody.

Mr. Goldsworthy's work is always interesting and enjoyable. Mr. Perkins was on point, and perfect for the job.

Every time I have listened to Prof. Madden it has been consistently professional, knowledgeable and also engaging. Even though by his delivery it is obvious that he doesn't know how to be purposefully engaging. Somehow he pulls it off, and comes across in a way that I really like, but can't quite put my finger on the exact reason why.

Also, "Venice: A New History" is great stuff. Definitely the best researched work on Venice, maybe ever. But what do I know.

I lived in northern Italy for a few years back in the nineties. During this time I visited Venice about twice a month, I never got tired of it, and I've missed it ever since. Of all the histories, documentaries, and other assorted literature I have worked through in the last 25 years, this is by far the best and my favorite.

Loved it. I was entertained and saddened, shocked and angered, all while feeling a bit guilty for enjoying what has to have been, at points, no less than a nightmare for the writer and those closest to him.
