Story
This shattering drama of isolation and loss is one of the greatest tragedies in world literature. King Lear of Britain has three daughters: the hard-hearted Goneril and Regan, and the good and gentle Cordelia. He determines to divide his kingdom between them, giving the largest share to she who can say she loves him the best. Lear's tragic lack of judgment and self-knowledge is paralleled by the blindness of the loyal Gloucester who is persuaded to reject his virtuous son, Edgar, in favor of the villainous Edmund.

A course I wish I'd had in high school or college

A General Intro to Writing Course
Reviewed: 04-29-22
I'd recommend this course to students: middle or high school students, individuals going to/back to college, or homeschoolers.
Types of writing covered are mostly academic or professional writing, like essays and persuasive letters. there are one or two lectures on poetry and just a little fiction is covered.
I've listened to several of Dorsey Armstrong's lecture series on Audible and found all of them to be organized and presented in a manner that is easy to understand.

Our gut is almost as important to us as our brain, yet we know very little about how it works. Gut: The Inside Story is an entertaining, informative tour of the digestive system from the moment we raise a tasty morsel to our lips until the moment our body surrenders the remnants to the toilet bowl. No topic is too lowly for the author's wonder and admiration, from the careful choreography of breaking wind to the precise internal communication required for a cleansing vomit.

Between his work on the 2014 Audible Audiobook of the Year, Hamlet, Prince of Denmark: A Novel, and his performance of Classic Love Poems, narrator Richard Armitage ( The Hobbit, Hannibal) has quickly become a listener favorite. Now, in this defining performance of Charles Dickens' classic David Copperfield, Armitage lends his unique voice and interpretation, truly inhabiting each character and bringing real energy to the life of one of Dickens' most famous characters.

Spectacular Performance
Reviewed: 04-18-22
A massive cast of unique characters is masterfully woven into a complex story spanning the first quarter of the title character's life. Around the one-third or halfway points in the story, I had to take a break from the audiobook because the story had become gradually heavier and heavier, and progress had slowed. As soon as I started listening to it again, the story and tone picked up.
Truly an outstanding performance from Richard Armitage! Diverse voices and accents for male and female characters, young and old. His natural voice is so deep and masculine, yet during monologues or dialogues of female characters, I often could forget that a man was giving the performance. He made clear the meaning in dialects or text that may have been otherwise difficult for modern readers to understand. Even in such a long book, I never got tired of listening to him read. I will look for more books performed by Richard Armitage.

Not The Original Story
Reviewed: 11-12-21
As other reviewers have noted, this is a modernized interpretation of Peter Pan set inexplicably during World War II. I found the strange modern concepts and language distracting enough that I gave up on the book by the time the children arrived in Neverland.
The performances sounded good, though. Overall, I'd recommend looking for another version. There is at least one more Peter Pan audiobook included in your Audible membership.

Science fiction allows us to go places we can only dream of seeing - other worlds, distant stars, entirely different galaxies. While not every story is concerned with the hard science behind space travel and other futuristic ventures, fiction can give us amazing insight into what we could be capable of and what we dream of doing. In these 10 lectures, Professor Erin Macdonald interweaves real science and the achievements of the imagination to reveal the truth that underlies our favorite stories and sheds light on what the future may hold.

A 13th-century toxic jungle, a bathhouse for tired gods, a red haired fish girl, and a furry woodland spirit - what do these have in common? They all spring from the mind of Hayao Miyazaki, one of the greatest living animators, known worldwide for films such as My Neighbor Totoro, Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, and The Wind Rises. Japanese culture and animation scholar Susan Napier explores the life and art of this extraordinary Japanese filmmaker to provide a definitive account of his oeuvre.
