Story
The day after future NBA superstar Chris Paul signed his letter of intent to play college basketball for Wake Forest, he received a world-shattering phone call. His grandfather, Nathaniel "Papa" Jones, a pillar of the Winston-Salem community where he owned and operated the first Black-owned service station in North Carolina, was mugged and ultimately died from a heart attack resulting from the assault. His funeral filled the largest church in the county, which held over 1,000 people. He was 61 years old.

My grandfather was my best friend, dad and play mate rolled into one. He passed away 8 days before my 16th birthday and at 49 I still speak about Fred Keith Romel. He exuded love and he had the patience of The Holy Spirit.
I appreciate you speaking about your papa as mine was just as special and these stories are important. It also helped me to remember that I need to do better, I know he’s proud but I also know that I’ve lost my patience with my teens boys and I definitely can work on my tone etc. I am aware we model to our kids as that’s one reason they say yes ma’am and no sir.
Really living your Papa’s message meant a lot.
Your book was beautiful and I’ve heard you speak with Dax Shepard and that by far has been one of my favorite interviews. I too loved hearing you speak with The Pivot. You’ve reminded me that leading is not easy and you have to remember why you were chosen for the position.
Thank you for an amazing book. Your kids, Jada and your whole family are truly blessed.
Respectfully,
Melaina Gautier, from Austin, TX

Story
First celebrated for her voice, she became one of the most talked-about women in the world, whether for music and fashion, her relationship struggles, or as a walking blonde joke. But now, instead of being talked about, Jessica is doing the talking. Her audiobook shares the wisdom and inspirations she’s learned and shows the real woman behind all the pop-culture clichés. Open Book is an opportunity to laugh and cry with a close friend, one that will inspire you to live your best, most authentic life, now that she is finally living hers.

I always liked Jessica Simpson but I was never a huge fan. I thought she was gorgeous, Newlyweds was hilarious, and I thought her voice was incredible. I have so much respect and appreciation not only for Jessica but her entire family. They endured loss and pain but they never stopped believing in each other or their faith. Jessica was so raw and you could even hear her voice give way at times and shake from emotion. The love and gratitude she has for her mother, father, sister, Eric, kids and her best girlfriends is really something to not only admire but something to aspire too. She’s never forgotten her roots nor her faith and prayer is extremely important to Jessica, which is not only refreshing but nice to hear her discuss prayer freely even when she too was faced with a lot of disappointment and loss, letting go of faith could have been easy but she held on more, maybe because of Sarah. I never knew how poor Jessica was growing up or how much of a hustler her mom has always been but to hear how she graciously supported her parents financially when she was younger was just something she did. I think she had some resentment in some ways which she discusses but it was never because she was the bread winner, I think it was the added stress Jessica put upon herself and I don’t believe her parents were aware. She’s a great storyteller and to share her highs and her lows must have been hard but she did so beautifully and I have no doubt that she had help from some special angels in her life. Jessica is an extremely hard worker and is so much like the rest of us. She wants to be loved, appreciated, and to be the best mom and the best boss while maintaining a good balance with her work and personal life. I think she’s definitely figuring out the best of both worlds and she’s extremely lucky to have someone who is as honest as CaCee Cobb, Eric, her mom and of course her sister whom she gives immense credit. I can’t say enough good about this book. Love the audio the 6 songs that are at the end are beautiful and I think her best work, love her duet with Willie Nelson. Jessica I’ve always liked you but I think I am literally in love with your spirit and soul. Continued Blessings and Prayers- from another Texas Girl!
