Story
Chemist Elizabeth Zott is not your average woman. In fact, Elizabeth Zott would be the first to point out that there is no such thing as an average woman. But it’s the early 1960s and her all-male team at Hastings Research Institute takes a very unscientific view of equality. Except for one: Calvin Evans; the lonely, brilliant, Nobel–prize nominated grudge-holder who falls in love with—of all things—her mind. True chemistry results.

This book at first did not grab my attention I tried to keep up with the first two chapters. Then I started to get really invested in the Bommarito family. Although there was some language and violent scenes, it was a beautiful story that had me shedding a few tears.

Duchess Day Radley is a 13-year-old self-proclaimed outlaw. Rules are for other people. She is the fierce protector of her five-year-old brother, Robin, and the parent to her mother, Star, a single mom incapable of taking care of herself, let alone her two kids. Walk has never left the coastal California town where he and Star grew up. He may have become the chief of police, but he’s still trying to heal the old wound of having given the testimony that sent his best friend, Vincent King, to prison decades before. And he's in overdrive protecting Duchess and her brother.

Heartbreaking but beautiful!

This was an amazing book by Chris Whitaker. I was drawn in from the start. Such heartbreak for a young girl to survive but she calls herself “Outlaw” for a reason. Great storyline. I thought I knew the answers to the puzzle but was clearly wrong. The cursing was a lot but it seemed necessary to really feel the emotions of Duchess. I highly recommend this book.

I wasn’t sure if I was gonna like this book, I mainly listen to historical fiction books but needed a break. When I first started listening to it I really didn’t like it. It was interesting now how the characters are all in twined with each other in someway. The overall story is good the narrator is great. If you like strange and unusual books, then give it a try. It was worth reading.

Story
An 11-year-old boy's violated corpse is found in a town park. Eyewitnesses and fingerprints point unmistakably to one of Flint City's most popular citizens. He is Terry Maitland, Little League coach, English teacher, husband, and father of two girls. Detective Ralph Anderson, whose son Maitland once coached, orders a quick and very public arrest. Maitland has an alibi, but Anderson and the district attorney soon add DNA evidence to go with the fingerprints and witnesses. Their case seems ironclad.

Sitting in a jail cell on the eve of his hanging, April 1, 1875, freedman Persimmon "Persy" Wilson wants nothing more than to leave some record of the truth - his truth. He may be guilty but not of what he stands accused: the kidnapping and rape of his former master's wife. In 1860 Persy had been sold to Sweetmore, a Louisiana sugar plantation, alongside a striking light-skinned house slave named Chloe. Their deep and instant connection fueled a love affair and inspired plans to escape their owner, Master Wilson, who claimed Chloe as his concubine.
