Story
When Aurelie Harcourt's father dies in debtor's prison, he leaves her just two things: his wealthy family, whom she has never met, and his famous pen name, Nathaniel Droll. Her new family greets her with apathy and even resentment. Only the quiet houseguest, Silas Rotherham, welcomes her company. When Aurelie decides to complete her father's unfinished serial novel, she must keep her identity as Nathaniel Droll hidden while searching for the truth about her mother's disappearance - and perhaps even her father's death.

Interesting at first but completely boring by the middle. I just had to put it away and find something more interesting.

Story
John Tradescant’s fame and skill as a gardener are unsurpassed in 17th-century England, but it is his clear-sighted honesty and loyalty that make him an invaluable servant. As an informal confidant of Sir Robert Cecil, adviser to King James I, he witnesses the making of history, from the Gunpowder Plot to the accession of King Charles I and the growing animosity between Parliament and court.

A great story.

I enjoyed listening to this story and hearing it from the gardener’s perspective. There was so much to learn in so many arenas. Very interesting. However I was deeply disappointed in the very graphic description of the gardener and his lord’s romantic coming together. OK, I expected that to happen but was repulsed by the author’s extremely detailed description, which was totally unnecessary. At that point I put the book down. I finally went back to it hoping there would be no more of this in the book and was grateful to finish the book without any more such nonsense scattered in. I will not be recommending this book to anyone as I think my friends would be disgusted with the inclusion of that description as well.

Story
For much of her life, Anne Morrow, the shy daughter of the U.S. ambassador to Mexico, has stood in the shadows of those around her, including her millionaire father and vibrant older sister, who often steals the spotlight. Then Anne, a college senior with hidden literary aspirations, travels to Mexico City to spend Christmas with her family. There she meets Colonel Charles Lindbergh, fresh off his celebrated 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic. Enthralled by Charles’s assurance and fame, Anne is certain the celebrated aviator has scarcely noticed her. But she is wrong.

This was great historical fiction and I learned a lot about the Lindbergs but especially Ann Morrow Lindberg. There was so much information about her life and personality. Now I am on to Gift From the Sea.

Story
When Harland Cain holds a .45 automatic to his head and bears down slowly upon the trigger, he experiences a profound sense of control over his destiny for the first time in his life. He savors the moment and imagines the click of the hammer, the explosion, and the bullet spiraling through the barrel before everything turns black. It's then he hears the out-of-control screaming of tires on the pavement, followed by the sickening sound of metal crashing against concrete. He lays down the pistol and crosses his yard in that predawn darkness to find a young boy, bloody and dazed.

Great Book!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story kept my attention to the very end. The characters were well developed and the scenery was described so well that I just essentially to get out there and see it for myself. I loved the narration—Mark Bramhall was perfect for the main character. And I will be looking for more books by D. B. Jackson.

Story
At once profoundly personal and far-reaching, Exit Interview with My Grandmother serves as a meditation on the beginning of a young woman’s life and the series of questions that arise from examining love, loss, family, memory, and death. Moving between cities and centuries, Meyersohn probes her family's Jewish history and her grandparents' relationships in part to decipher her own young queer relationships, but also to examine how we ought to behave in the face of a world riddled with uncertainty and doubt.

I loved the gran on her father’s side.
Reviewed: 02-24-21
I was basically disappointed in this book as there was very little actual interview with a grandmother. She had many thoughts on her feelings on her personal romantic relationship. I was much more interested in what her grandmother had to tell her and would have loved to have heard more from her on any topic.

Story
Born to survivalists in the mountains of Idaho, Tara Westover was seventeen the first time she set foot in a classroom. Her family was so isolated from mainstream society that there was no one to ensure the children received an education, and no one to intervene when one of Tara’s older brothers became violent. When another brother got himself into college, Tara decided to try a new kind of life. Her quest for knowledge transformed her, taking her over oceans and across continents, to Harvard and to Cambridge University.

What an interesting read.

I listened to this book at every opportunity and was sorry when it came to an end. The book is very well written and it hurts the heart to realize extent of the struggle Tara Westover faced to overcome the fears and misguided beliefs of her family.
