Story
Becoming Duchess Goldblatt is two stories: that of the reclusive real-life writer who created a fictional character out of loneliness and thin air, and that of the magical Duchess Goldblatt herself, a bright light in the darkness of social media. Fans around the world are drawn to Her Grace's voice, her wit, her life-affirming love for all humanity, and the fun and friendship of the community that's sprung up around her.

Perfect
Reviewed: 07-10-20
Having followed Duchess Goldblatt on Twitter for many years, I expected to find laughs and warmth and even wisdom in her memoir. But I never anticipated that all of those things would be layered within a wrenching and deeply human story of loss, identity, and hope.
Gabra Zackman is perfectly cast as the primary narrator, the voice of Anonymous. Her voice has an earthy reality that grounds the proceedings, making us truly feel the devastation and heartache that haunt Anonymous' life. Peppered throughout are actual tweets from Duchess Goldblatt, read with charming Goldblattian verve by J. Smith-Cameron. And the inclusion of Lyle Lovett voicing the tweets of Lyle Lovett is simply [chef's kiss].
Becoming Duchess Goldbatt is a triumph--beautifully written and performed, moving, insightful, laugh-out-loud funny, and even inspiring. I should have expected nothing less.

Story
Dreaming the Beatles is not another biography of the Beatles or a song-by-song analysis of the best of John and Paul. It isn't another exposé about how they broke up. It isn't a history of their gigs or their gear. It is a collection of essays telling the story of what this ubiquitous band means to a generation who grew up with the Beatles' music on their parents' stereos and their faces on T-shirts. What do the Beatles mean today? Why are they more famous and beloved now than ever? Find out.

Loved it. Fascinating structure, full of interesting details. I loved the audiobook and, when I finished, bought the hardcover so I'd be able to thumb through it at my leisure.

High flying. Adored.

I had such a great time listening to this. Ms. LuPone is, unsurprisingly, a fantastic narrator. Her stories are heartfelt and truthful - even when they don’t always reflect that well on her - and I appreciate her honesty and depth. It’s also filled with humor, accentuated by her personality as she reads. What a performance. What a show.

Story
With his characteristic eyebrow-raising behavior, Richard P. Feynman once provoked the wife of a Princeton dean to remark, "Surely you're joking, Mr. Feynman!" But the many scientific and personal achievements of this Nobel Prize-winning physicist are no laughing matter. Here, woven with his scintillating views on modern science, Feynman relates the defining moments of his accomplished life.

Had to abandon it.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
I really regret not listening to the sample first. And I really regret not actually starting to listen to it until I'd lost my ability to return it. The narrator was unbearable. I could not get past his forced "jokey" delivery. Abandoned it with extreme prejudice pretty quickly. And I hate that, because I've read other Feynman books and was really looking forward to experiencing his classic. Oh well. Guess I'll have to experience it the old-fashioned way - by reading it.
