While The Singularity Trap isn't as hard-hitting as my favorite sci-fi series, The Expanse novels, this was still really enjoyable! I genuinely enjoyed the world that was created and it felt believable to me as a semi-near-future setting.

I've read some reviews about how people didn't enjoy this, and I can sort of see why because the plot does take a bit of a left turn from where you think it's going at the beginning of the book, and if you didn't read the synopsis then that might be a bit of a surprise! I really enjoyed it, but I'll remain vague in case anyone wants to go in not knowing what happens!

Overall I really liked this, and Ray Porter is a great narrator (I also enjoyed him in Taylor's Bobiverse series!). If you liked this, I highly recommend checking those out next!

I loved this book! If you like reading books about a grim, dark vision for the future of the planet Earth, I highly recommend that you check this out. This book was recommended to me several times by Audible but I was a bit thrown by the cover, and mostly decided to check it out because I was familiar with (and really like) the narrator, R.C. Bray, who also narrated several other books I really like. He does an excellent job conveying the bleakness of the world and the gruffness of the people it creates, without it feeling overdone. I was instantly transported into the author's vision of the future and, even though it was horrifying, I didn't want to leave. I read the sequel immediately afterwards (which was a very worthy follow-up) and am now anxiously awaiting the third book, due in May 2018!

If you could sum up The Martian in three words, what would they be?

Incredible space adventure

Who was your favorite character and why?

Mark Watney, because he's inventive, hilarious, and never gives up no matter what the odds.

Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not yet, but his performance in The Martian is so incredible that I've added several of his other narrations to my wish list!

There were several moments in this book that made me laugh out loud! Mark Watney truly has a great sense of humor about his situation.

What made the experience of listening to The Art of Language Invention the most enjoyable?

The author is so knowledgable, and it was amazing to listen to a history and overview of something I wasn't familiar with but was very curious about.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Art of Language Invention?

Going through all the different sounds in different languages! I learned why some sounds are so difficult for me to pronounce when learning other languages, and practiced along making different sounds.

What about David J. Peterson’s performance did you like?

The narration seemed so patient, going through every sound with practiced ease. As an ardent geek, there were also plenty of pop culture references in here that I really enjoyed.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When David J. Peterson was talking about how he felt when he saw one of the languages that he created recreated on the set of the SyFy show Defiance, it was clear that he put so much time and thought into his work.

Any additional comments?

This book made me feel so fascinated with the world of consigning. Even though I will probably never create one myself, I love this book!
