Story
Sidekick to SS Chief Heinrich Himmler and supervisor of Nazi rocket scientist Wernher von Braun, General Hans Kammler was responsible for the construction of Hitler's slave labor sites and concentration camps. He personally altered the design of Auschwitz to increase crowding, ensuring that epidemic diseases would complement the work of the gas chambers. Why has the world forgotten this monster? Kammler was declared dead after the war. But the aide who testified to Kammler's supposed "suicide" never produced the general's dog tags or any other proof of death.

entertaining for a free book
Reviewed: 08-08-24
While the author obviously went to some pains to research Jewish customs and laws, he did so only in a very superficial manner. Things are GLARINGLY wrong with the details. And please "chevra" is a short e, not "cheeevra"! The narrator varied his voice well between characters.
The story is an easy listen.

The plot twist at end was pretty much expected, not terribly original.
I don't know how much of this is based on fact. The main character, a very forthright lady was entertaining, however not typical for the era, and ALSO not the type of personality likely to be targeted by a catfisher. So while the story may be based on fact, undoubtedly GREAT liberties where taken. Nevertheless a quick look at a not talked about case.

Interesting history, but bit dry
Reviewed: 07-31-24
The narrator was very good. I enjoyed the last few chapters more than the earlier ones. It seemed to me that the portrayal was a bit dry. Nevertheless well worth a credit. But do not expect to be drawn in, as say by a Larson history telling.

Story
When Aline Griffith was born in Pearl River, New York, in 1923, one might have guessed from her exceptional beauty that a career as an actress or model might be in her future. Few would have imagined that twenty-one years later, she would find herself in Spain as a deep-cover OSS agent, infiltrating the highest levels of Spanish society, or that five years later still, she would marry a Spanish grandee and become one of the most watched, most admired, most fascinating women of international society. This is the story of Aline, Countess of Romanones, a story of courage, beauty and success that is far more exciting than any fictionalized thriller.

Very interesting, well narrated. Although I guessed the main plot twist early on, I was still enchanted by this lovely title. It was, if anything, a bit TOO much like a novel.
My only critisism is if you want historical background, I think itcould havecontained more.
