Story
The complete unabridged audiobook of J.R.R Tolkien's The Silmarillion. The Silmarillion is an account of the Elder Days, of the First Age of Tolkien’s world. It is the ancient drama to which the characters in The Lord of the Rings look back, and in whose events some of them such as Elrond and Galadriel took part.

Reads like a textbook... only it's fiction
Reviewed: 12-30-22
This seems like a history textbook you might find if you lived in Tolkien's world. It's extremely dry and doesn't follow any core set of characters for any length of time. I think some may enjoy this but I didn't find it entertaining no matter how much I tried.

Repulsive characters
Reviewed: 09-28-22
It was so difficult to relate or like any of the characters. If this hadn’t been a bookclub pick I would’ve abandoned the story after chapter 2.
Spoilers Ahead: 1) It was difficult to approve of a husband having an affair with the co-author while his wife was in the other room trying to recover from a near fatal injury…which was the husbands’s 1st murder attempt. 2) After being married to a person for many years, one would think they know their partner well enough that they wouldn’t automatically think the worse and attempt to murder them. 3) After taking the opportunity to murder them but they lived through it, wouldn’t the murderer possibly have remorse or even 2nd guess their 1st attempt at murder?
I truly didn’t enjoy this book.

The “hero” was like able, but not the heroine
Reviewed: 10-19-20
My brief opinion: The narrator made this book enjoyable. The hero Jaime was pleasant and very like able but the heroine Katie, not so much. I wanted to quit listening to this book a couple times but pushed through it. Katie has no real life experience and was sheltered but she was ignorant, irritating and made choices that made me just grit my teeth. Seems like Jaime’s real interest in her was based on her looks because she didn’t have much substance. Some books are so enjoyable and you just get wrapped up but I’d never listen to this book again. Once was enough.

I was a top-notch Were agent for the secret paranormal Council and happily living in Chicago, where I had everything I needed - a gym membership, season tickets to the Cubs, and Dwayne - my gay Vampyre best friend. Going back now would mean facing the reason I'd left, and I'd rather chew my own paw off than deal with Hank. Hank the Tank Wilson was the six-foot-three, obnoxious, egotistical, perfect-assed, best-sex-of-my-life Werewolf who cheated on me and broke my heart.

Superstar comedian and Hollywood box-office star Kevin Hart turns his immense talent to the written word by writing some words. Some of those words include: the, a, for, above, and even even. Put them together and you have the funniest, most heartfelt, and most inspirational memoir on survival, success, and the importance of believing in yourself since Old Yeller.

Kevin Hart is a very entertaining guy. He has definitely had an interesting life filled with anecdotes that leave you shaking your head. Originally I checked out the book from the library but just couldn’t seem to get into the book. After I found out the narrator was none other than Kevin, I decided to make an audible purchase. Sooooo much better listening to him rather than reading the material. If you’re a KH fan, you’ll enjoy his book. Beware, loads of vulgar language. I think I would’ve enjoyed the book more if there was less profanity.

Why we think it’s a great listen: It is a truth universally acknowledged that anyone looking for a great listen won’t be able to resist Jane Austen’s delightful classic of love and manners in Regency England. Jane Austen's story of Mrs. Bennet's finding husbands for her daughters is told with wit and charm. A must for lovers of good literature. It’s understandable that P&P that has hundreds of versions of this story featuring many different narrators, abridged, unabridged, etc. It is a wonderful classic that I have listened to in its many creations over the last 20 years.
Kate Reading is a superior narrator. She changes her voice enough for you to differentiate which character is speaking but she doesn’t go overboard in attempts to create the male voices. Because I know the story by memory and Kate’s voice is soothing, I like to set the timer and listen to this story at bedtime using the Audible app. My husband agrees that he too finds this nightly routine to be relaxing.

Story
In December 1975, the Lutz family moved into their new home on suburban Long Island. George and Kathleen Lutz knew that, one year earlier, Ronald DeFeo had murdered his parents, brothers, and sisters in the house, but the property - complete with boathouse and swimming pool - and the price were too good to pass up. This is the shocking true story of an American dream that turned into a nightmare beyond imagining for the Lutz family, who were forced to flee their new home in terror.

Historical references make for an eerie story.

Several movies have been released over the last few years regarding Ed and Lorraine Warren's experience with haunted, demonic and possessed artifacts. If paranormal is topic of interest for you, then you'll likely find this book interesting. The Lutz family continued to stay in their home even after very strange/scary things occurred. Numerous times throughout the book I found myself thinking "Why aren't you getting out of the house? Just leave!" Then it would dawn on me that if I had invested everything I had into a home and was financially strapped, it's very possible that I'd likely look for a scientific explanation or chalk it up to my imagination. At some point when the unexplainable was just too much to handle, like the family, I'd get the heck out of there too. Is this story real or a hoax? Debunked or not, sometimes there isn't always a scientific answer.

Picking up from A Discovery of Witches' cliff-hanger ending, Shadow of Night takes reluctant witch Diana Bishop and vampire geneticist Matthew Clairmont on a trip through time to Elizabethan London, where they are plunged into a world of spies, magic, and a coterie of Matthew's old friends, the School of Night. As the search for Ashmole 782—the lost and enchanted manuscript whose mystery first pulled Diana and Matthew into one another's orbit—deepens and Diana seeks out a witch to tutor her in magic, the net of Matthew's past tightens around them.

Historical figures, adventure & romance. Check!!

If only I could time travel! Since I can't seem to make that happen I guess I will have to live vicariously through books. This follow up book to Deborah Harkness's A Discovery of Witches did not disappoint me. I enjoyed meeting Matthews friends and family from the past. Both books can be read and understood as a stand alone but if you read the first book you will enjoy finding out more about Matthew's past and Diana's discoverys of her witchy abilities. If you're a fan of magic, history, adventure, suspense and romance then don't hesitate!! This book is NOTHING like that of Tolkien, Martin, or Brooks so please don't think it will be a "fantasy" read similiar to those stories.
