Story
Weaving a latticework of different strands, moving back and forth through time, Josh Brolin captures a life marked by curiosity, pain, devotion, kindness, humor. He recounts an unconventional childhood far from Hollywood. Raised on a ranch in Paso Robles, California, he was surrounded as a child by the wolves, cougars, and other wild animals gathered by his fearless and explosive mother, Jane Agee Brolin. Her tragic, early death haunts this book, and the force of her unforgettable personality is felt throughout.

Trying to hard
Reviewed: 11-29-24
If felt like Josh Brolin tried to romanticize every word in every sentence. He was trying way too hard to formalize a sentence in the Hunter S Thompson/Jim Carroll format. I found the majority of the 3 to 4 minute chapters unlistenable thank God they were short. Then he went on a book tour on every major podcast/entertainment outlet and regurgitated the exact same story. So there’s no need to buy the book. Just listen to a few interviews with Josh Brolin and you got the message.

I wish I was in the mob/I have black friends
Reviewed: 08-04-24
The narration was good, except for the narration of 2Pac he pronounced it to pack at least a half a dozen times or more. You would’ve thought the author would’ve noticed that mistake because he makes it extremely clear. He is into the black community. I enjoyed how the author summarized the chapters at the end of each chapter.
The author was obsessed with the mob/organized crime in New York. Wanted the reader to know all his encounters with the mob were fantastic and they were fantastic people.
The virtue signaling was extremely over the top the author wanted to make sure the reader knew he had black friends and how he catered to the black and Mexican communities it was extremely important for him to get that point across. He is a virtue signaling liberal disruptor. If you wanna listen to an author, pander and virtue signal to the reader, this is your book.
