This book was a slight disappointment for me. Unlike the rest of the book this far, there was no dramatic climax. The round 2 hours of epilogue was cool but felt misplaced and didn’t add much to the story. Maybe I’ll feel different about the next book.

Millions of people visit xkcd.com each week to read Randall Munroe's iconic webcomic. His stick-figure drawings about science, technology, language, and love have a large and passionate following. Fans of xkcd ask Munroe a lot of strange questions. What if you tried to hit a baseball pitched at 90 percent of the speed of light? How fast can you hit a speed bump while driving and live? If there were a robot apocalypse, how long would humanity last?

What, in the depths of hell, was that. For nearly 3 hours of this book I thought someone turned on Days of our lives. Who were these characters? Where was the damn shark for 4/5ths of the book! No ending! The shark just.... dies. Wife gets away with being a whore, and honestly I was pulling for the shark to just straight up buffet that entire town. I feel bad for giving Erik Steele three stars but he was handed a shit sandwich with this one.

Thrawn’s latest triumph still rests newly on his shoulders. He has led the Chiss to victory and brought glory to the House of Mitth, but the true threat to the Ascendancy has not yet been extinguished. Their foes do not send threats or ultimatums, do not mass ships on the edge of the Chaos. Their weapons come cloaked in smiles and generosity: Gifts offered freely. Services granted unconditionally. Across the Ascendancy, seemingly inconsequential events could herald the doom of the Chiss.

I guess this is a thrawn novel
Reviewed: 05-12-21
You know, I was excited. I pre-ordered this book the day I was able to. I listened to the entire thrawn collection in order in time for this book. And then... this book. The story really strayed for what dynamic I thought was building and ended up at back woodsville chisstuckey with who cares face molesting aliens. The overall plot? Well of course thrawn figured it out. Wait? Where was thrawn for two thirds of that book? I had to listen to this book twice so I could be sure I didn’t miss something that wasn’t given away in the first hour. Sigh. I fear Disney is pushing you to hard Zahn. The first thrawn of the cannon series was amazing! But I feel it’s been slowly deteriorating as the books continue. I’m a good fan and will be ordering the next book. I’m just underwhelmed with the overall direction of our characters. Anyone who’s read the other books known the grisk will not be defeated and thrawn is to be sent away. What are we building towards? No a writer. Just a fan, but come on I wanna see the tactical brilliance and feel thrawn strain at the complexity of his enemy. Not sneak around behind the mayors back.

In a crafty new novel featuring the world's greatest literary detective, Alan Vanneman extends the boundaries of the Sherlock Holmes canon with this novel. A late-night summons takes Holmes and Dr. Watson from the cozy Victorian comforts of Baker Street to the Orient Express, where they travel the breadth of Europe to exotic Constantinople. But danger's afoot, for death, too, is traveling first class.

I found this book to be less of a Sherlock Holmes story and more of the account of John Watson and the hapsburg tiara. The spoils of mystery explained rather then discovered. All in all a decent read and I shall read it again.

I may have set my sights a little to higher for this book. 3 hours in before it could really get my attention and the ending is spoiled in the middle of the book. The story of the low five would have been a bigger hit. I loved ready player one. This book however, I may trade in.
