Story
When literature student Anastasia Steele goes to interview young entrepreneur Christian Grey, she encounters a man who is beautiful, brilliant, and intimidating. The unworldly, innocent Ana is startled to realize she wants this man and, despite his enigmatic reserve, finds she is desperate to get close to him. Unable to resist Ana’s quiet beauty, wit, and independent spirit, Grey admits he wants her, too—but on his own terms.

On the Fence

I think this book had a lot of potential to be a great love story. I love the idea of the whole tortured soul meets lost girl and they both change each other or offer each other what they have been missing. However, some of the writing is very repetitive. The number of times you hear Ana or Christian say the same phrase is almost annoying, and exhausting. The back and forth emails are also very hard to listen to because the reading of the headlines and date and time take you out of the story. I think these probably come across easier if physically reading the book. Ana's character is extremely juvenile and annoying at times as well. She constantly has this inner debate with herself and then contradicts herself in the next paragraph. The narrator has a great voice for Ana, but lacks in her voicing of male characters. I enjoyed the book, but do think it could have been more well written.

Story
Detective Steven Paul has had the same nightmare for as long as he can remember, a strange symbol figuring prominently into his terror. He decided long ago that the recurring dreams are nothing more than an unfortunate side effect of his often traumatic profession. Until, that is, he's assigned to the case of Emily Lindsey, the beautiful, elusive, and controversial blogger found alone, holding a hunting knife, and covered in someone else's blood.

My husband and I listened to this on a road trip to New Orleans. Great read/listen and the narrator is great too. We love a good twist too ;)
