Story
In late 1941, President Roosevelt agonized over the rapid advances of the Japanese forces in Asia. They seemed unstoppable. He foresaw their intentions of taking India and linking up with the two other Axis powers, Germany and Italy, in an attempt to conquer the Eastern Hemisphere. US naval forces had been severely surprised and diminished in Pearl Harbor, and the army was outnumbered and ill prepared to take on the invading hoards.

While I understand this is historical fiction, there is history to be learned here. I'm astonished at the speed with which the US joined the war after Pearl Harbor. The heroic deeds of this group of men was unknown to me. I felt so connected to their lives and their stories in this book.

Would you listen to Dark Horse again? Why?
Yes because it made me feel good! Wonderful, wholesome characters having real-life type problems but overcoming them. What's not to enjoy?!?
What was one of the most memorable moments of Dark Horse?
I don't want to have a spoiler... but... the showdown between Sam and Kiran (sp?) was pretty great with Ellie's help!

Who was your favorite character and why?
Tom, Kate, Jack... they were all amazing characters. They each had flaws but were great human beings anyway.
Which scene was your favorite?
When Tom and Kate first meet on the airplane. Having the pilot and Kate stand up for Tom, help him when he was so miserable about Mack, it showed the best side of human nature.
Any additional comments?
Thomas Block did a great job narrating this book. I felt drawn into the story with his voices.

Story
Learn the 'Inside Story' of a complex high-tech crime from years ago! Taking place in a pre-9/11 world of the 80′s, a former US submarine is hijacked in the Gulf, a floating aircraft carrier museum is hijacked from its dock in South Carolina, a Learjet and then a DC-9 are hijacked from New York shortly thereafter. The story is a vintage-era caper that involves gold, hostages and a memorable cast of noble and exceptionally nasty characters.

Story
Thomas Block has created Captain - his most ambitious, intricate, and action-packed aviation tale yet. It is a chilling and all too real story about a routine Trans-Atlantic airline flight that suddenly turns absolutely insane. In the doomed airliner's cockpit, inside the passenger cabin, and on the ground, a complex array of characters have been propelled at jet speed into a sudden and frantic race for survival.

What made the experience of listening to Captain the most enjoyable?
Knowing the reader had created each of the characters and was portraying them as he envisioned them...
What was one of the most memorable moments of Captain?
There were too many "seat of the pants" moments in Captain to choose a single most memorable moment.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely!
Any additional comments?
I've read or listened to a number of Thomas Blocks' books. This is his best to date! I can't convey how exciting almost the entire book was. Thank goodness there were some pauses in the tension!

Story
This is the story of the first airline pilot ever arrested and sent to prison for flying under the influence. He was fired by his airline, stripped of his FAA licenses, tried, convicted, and sent to federal prison. Lyle Prouse came from a WWII housing project in Kansas and a family where both parents died as a result of alcoholism. He rose through the ranks of the United States Marine Corps from private to captain, from an infantryman to a fighter pilot. He made his way to the pinnacle of commercial aviation, airline captain, and then lost it all.

What did you like best about this story?
Lyle Prouse's humility and honesty.
What does Thomas Block bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I felt like I was listening to Lyle talk. I've no idea if they sound even remotely the same, but Thomas Block was real as Lyle.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Life continues in spite of headlines.
Any additional comments?
I'd listened to this book, then recommended it to my book club. One of the members emailed Mr. Prouse. He was very congenial! They corresponded through 5 emails each. Considering how busy he is, traveling and giving inspirational talks, that is impressive. He's a hero of his own life.

I appreciate how Gamble has woven spiritual and mystical stories into present day crime stories. His story doesn’t require the reader to accept the mystical criminal as he does offer a human criminal. The mystical creatures are interesting.
