Eye rollingly cringy

I want to preface this by saying If you’re going to read this, do it with a physical copy or ebook.

The only thing that saved this book was the ending. The beginning and middle is filled with bad and cringy dialog. With very little relationship building. The book is overly repetitive and recaps things that literally just happened. It was like the author was trying to hit a certain word court, and instead of building on the story just recaps what happened two chapters back.

Now on to the narrators. The female narrator did a good job. I felt she had decent inflection and tone. The male narrator was too over the top. The constant giggling (which felt like every 30 seconds) got old real fast. And, while I can see the MMC being a little over dramatic, this narrator made it unbearable. I didn’t like the MMC at all and I’m not sure if it is the writing or the narrator.

Abuse disguised as a dominant/submissive

I listened to this book a few months ago, and thought maybe I just wasn’t in the right headspace, so I tried it again. As someone who reads a lot of dark romance, and has very few triggers, this MMC is really just abusive. Parts of the story move very slowly, and the last part felt very rushed. At times it felt like there was more than one author writing this, as it felt disconnected in parts. The plot had promise, just not great execution.

I first read Reckless in the series, and it’s one of the better books I’ve read this year, so I figured I’d try more in the series. The story is good, but I don’t know if it’s because of the female narrator that the dialogue is tough to get through, or just weirdly written. The male narrator does a good job. The female narrator can sound very robotic and it kind of pulls you out of the story. I may try reading this on kindle to give it a second try.

Too fast paced, bad dialogue

The plot itself is a good premise, unfortunately the dialogue and pace was not well done. The dialogue was very immature for the characters to be in their mid 20’s. While I don’t always need a slow burn, there was no “build up” at all. I’m not sure if it’s because there were two authors but there were a few discrepancies with timelines in this story. While I do love foreshadowing, this book was too apparent, so the ending of the book became obvious very early on.

This book could have been almost cut in half. You don’t get to ANYTHING interesting until after over 5 hours of really nothing. It does get better towards the middle to end. The spicy scenes I mostly fast forwarded because of how bad the dialogue was, and gave me second hand embarrassment. I feel like the end of the epilogue was thrown in after beta readers complained that he never apologized, so she added it to explain why. It’s a good plot, just needed to be refined.
